Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Well with all the collapses it's not surprising some would resort to cannibalism. It's not something I know much about though.

@Magoo: Don't forget the malagasy, which are closely related to the polynesians as well. And yes, the Moriori are defenitely a must; in fact, ultimately my polynesians are Moriori, not only because they actually use that name for their people, but because they are more peacefull than their neighbours.

Cannibalism will, in fact, display a huge importance in the story I'm building for this setting. It is among the "horrors" that the Hakawai, the nightmare bird, reminds the Moriori of, as the people from Hawaiki were forced to cannibalism as the island died. The rival polynesian civilasation in the setting, meanwhile, still practises large scale cannibalism, as do other tribes.

Can't wait for the next update... this sounds like a brilliant project...

I have a "juvenile" fantasy story consisting mostly of pictures, which I've been working on on and off since 1984 (earning a living keeps getting in the way) set in some "south sea archipelago" (more likely Indian Ocean than Pacific tho) and there are negrito-cum-polynesian "dwarfs" - and most of the mammals are sort of "Lemur"-ish... I don't plan to ever state exactly where it takes place, it could even be off-planet or some other "dimension" or universe.
