Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Mantids. Are. Awesome.

At one of my horse shows, there was a mantis on my trailer, and it just like, shot of a vertical wall, grabbed a jumping grass hopper, and landed on the wheel, which was vertica.
I do art sometimes.

Projects:
Amammalia: A strange place where mammals didn't make it and the land is, once again, dominated by archosaurs.

Oceanus: An endless sea dotted with islands, reefs, and black holes. Literally endless, literal black holes.

Hey, you guys are lucky. We have Africanized bees all over the place here, and at the rate the climate in this hemisphere is changing pythons and boa constrictors might soon be able to establish thriving populations as far north as Virginia within half a century.

Oh, and mountain lions are moving back into Kansas. Fuck.
A bad 'killer' bee attack is statistically stupid based, I for one welcome our new Darwinian lawgivers. A slightly warmer summer is irrelevant with colder winters.

Jaguars are moving back to Kansas if you want a real threat.

Jaguars never lived here. Before we were an open prairie, we were under a glacier. Before that, we were under an ocean. Before that, we were part of Pangaea. The only jaguars here are the people at my old high school (our mascot was a jaguar).

And it most certainly isn't stupid, statistically or otherwise. They are incredibly aggressive and territorial, and attack anything that gets within like ten feet of their hive. And when that many bees sting you, you'll probably be dead by the time the ambulance shows up. I remember when I was in fourth grade some of them made a hive in a tree this guy had in his yard (it was right next to the playground and most of the tree hung over it). They made all the kids stay inside while men in bee suits with flame throwers burned the tree to the ground. It was the best school day ever.
We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar.

"The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming

Well, jaguars did once live in Kansas. They evolved in Europe, so they would have to be present in Kansas at some point in the Pleistocene.

I live on long island, and there are no annoying species... Well, except for the yellow jackets, horse flies, mosquitoes, and raccoons. Last year, on summer break, just as I was about to go to bed, these raccoons were screaming at the top of their lungs at each other. God, I hate coons so much!
Projects and concepts that I have stewing around
Extended Pleistocene- An alternate future where man died out, and the megafauna would continue to thrive (may or may not include a bit about certain future sapients)
Inverted World- An alternate timeline where an asteroid hit during the Barremian, causing an extinction event before the Maastrichtian. Dinosaurs, pterosaurs, and notosuchians make it to the present, along with a host of other animals.
Badania- Alien planet that has life at a devonian stage of development, except it exists in the present day.
Ido- Alien world where hoppers (derived flightless ballonts) and mouthpart-legged beasts are prevalent.
Leto- Life on a moon orbiting a gas giant with an erratic orbit; experiences extremes of hot and cold.
The Park- ???
Deeper Impact- a world where the K-Pg extinction wipes out crocodilians, mammals, and birds; squamates, choristoderes, and turtles inherit the earth.
World of Equal Opportunity- alternate history where denisovans come across Beringia and interact with native fauna. Much of the Pleistocene fauna survives, and the modern humans that end up crossing into North America do not overhunt the existing animals. 10,000 years later, civilizations exist that are on par with European and Asian societies.
The Ditch- Nothing is what if seems..

Don't worry about Africanized Bees. They re-domesticate, and are better than regular ones.

200 years ago they were in the southwest corner of what is now Kansas.

Unless your allergic to them the slight aggression increase is off set by how easy it is to see the hive.

It's not about allergies; enough bees sting you and it WILL be fatal.

Any bees can do that. Have you ever tried harvesting honey?

funny - if you're allergic - you can sometimes get a reaction - other times not...

I thought I was allergic - riding a motorcycle in spring and summer - you're bound to have bee encounters. My face would swell up - and I'd have to get a dose of anti-histamines pronto...

I've lost count of the times I've been stung - the worst ones are where they fall down the back of your pants!!!

Anyway - I've since been stung, and not come out with an allergic reaction - until - riding thru Northern Victoria in Spring 2006, I got stung 3 times in rapid succession, on the nose, then the upper lip - so I put a face mask on - then I got stung on the neck - that was it - my joints starts swelling and I developed leg cramps - I wasn't going to die, but I couldn't ride my bike anymore - so swapped out with someone in a car and they rode my bike...

More people die from honey bee stings than are taken by sharks! When an aggravated swarm of honeybees take exception to you, you're pretty well and truly f--ked... Recently a "linesman" for a power company disturbed a bunch of them on a power-pole and he was dead...

more deaths a year are caused by coconuts falling on people's heads than shak attacks and honeybee attacks combined.

More people die from the corks popping from champagne bottles than of shark attacks. Seriously. Sharks are pussies.
