| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! don't Blink. Blink and you're Dead. Don't turn your Back. don't Look Away, and Don't blink. Good luck He never raised his voice. That was the worst thing - the fury of a Time Lord - and then we discovered why. Why this Doctor, who had fought with Gods and Demons, why he had run away from us and hidden. I'm not sure if "god" is the correct term... many people here have problems with some of his concepts. However, I think that After Man is probably a good plce to start. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/After_Man:_A_Zoology_of_the_Future |

He means don't read them. If you have spec evo knowledge, you'll see how ridiculously unplausible they are, but you will have a craving to change. |

I do art sometimes. "if you want green eat a salad" Projects: Amammalia: A strange place where mammals didn't make it and the land is, once again, dominated by archosaurs. Oceanus: An endless sea dotted with islands, reefs, and black holes. Literally endless, literal black holes. ❤️❤️~I'm not a boy~❤️❤️ | |

I think Pavel Volkov has links to "After Man," "The New Dinosaurs," and "Man After Man" on his Neocene website. But my favorite spec evo book (if it can be called one) is Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. |

I learned that stuff early so I wouldn't have to worry about it later on in life. I inherited after man from my brother and in like 1st grade saw TFIW and then in 3rd and 4th grade wanted to make a movie of TFIW like an exploration thing and then in say6th grade/last summer I got interested in spec evo and started looking at things other than the spec Dino project I think I got here through either JohnFaa or Rick raptor on DA. |

Dixons books are pretty unrealistic, but I'd still read them just to see what got everybody else interested in it. |

@soulpelt - if it's lingo you want, then you could try the SE Glossary; http://s1.zetaboards.com/Conceptual_Evolution/pages/se_glossary We've covered most of the words you need there. Also, I recommend Expedition by Wayne Douglas Barlowe. Some of the lifeforms are questionable, but it's also quite inspiring. |

If you want to create Latin names, try an English/Latin translator, such as; http://www.archives.nd.edu/cgi-bin/wordes.exe Just input words that describe your lifeform. |

I know some spec evo for you to look up though not all of it is books. Such as: dracopedia which is an alternate world with dragons. I have also seen several articals in scientific america popular science(not sure which their in storage) that delt with alternate biochemistries and alien plant life. |

They're actually not long words, they're made up pretty much of smaller words. Take for instance tyrannosaurus rex; tyranno = tyrant, saurus = lizard, rex = king. Therefore tyrannosaurus rex means "tyrant lizard king." Or dinosaur; dino = terrible, saur = lizards. Therefore dinosaur means "terrible lizards." When I took biology my freshman year of highschool we had to learn a set of Latin/Greek prefixes and suffixes every week, with a quiz on each Friday. Turns out it was actually useful, not just for scientific words. Lots of medical terms are also done in the same manner, as are many names of chemicals. |

We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar. "The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming Tree That Owns Itself
