| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Some of you may remember the project I first did when I first got here, about a strange alternative world inhabited by strange mammalian reptiles and weird forms of basal diapsid sauropsids. Well, I'm re-making the previous project into something more plausible and possibly weirder. First, the basic information about this world. Almost all the conditions in this planet is more or less same as our Earth; the general chemical composition throughout, the same distance from its sun, etc. However, this planet is slightly bigger than ours, this world being 1.8 time larger than ours, and therefore the density is slightly lower. The oxygen levels and atmospherical density is a bit higher, but only slightly, and the composition in general except for the oxygen levels are the same, making the atmosphere more or less similar to ours, except being a little closer to Carboniferous-level. And the geography is also different. I've mapped out the general landscape, just need to get to the specific locations and drawing a map in GIMP. The lands consist of three major continents, with the two largest continents located in the East and the West running opposite each other and the third continent located in the center, along with some India-sized isolated subcontinents and island chains/archipelagos about the size of the the Japanese or the Birtish islands and some smaller hawaii-sized islands dotting the six major oceans. The global climate is largely warmer than ours, the entire globe covered with jungles, temperate/subtropical woodlands and warm pine forests, with a circle of tundras encompassing the far Northern and Southern islands and a strip of deserts/savannahs near the equator. The forests and woodlands are cut by muddy, slow-moving swampish rivers and vast mountain ranges consisting of active volcanos, skyscraping mountains taller than any Terran mountains, with often chains of mountains forming 'land islands', areas completely isolated by surrounding mountain ranges. Lush swamps and wetlands stretch over vast expanses, with stretches of humid, swamplike coasts and thickly wooded mangroves. The fauna, I've got a few sketches of some animal groups and will post them later. Most of the fauna here is derived from recognizable Earth families, with some expansions to new niches. The fauna of this world heavily resembles a cross between Terran late Permian/Trassic/early Jurassic fauna, populated by various synapsids, curotarsans and to a further extant primitive forms of mammals, testudines, squamates and possibly even para-dinosaurs. The skies are populated by non-pterodactyloids, weird bat-like beaked therocephalans, drakons (avicephalans), 'birds' (weird flying/gliding reptiles derived from the same stock as pterosaurs and dinosaurs) and dragons. So anybody want more? |

I do art sometimes. "if you want green eat a salad" Projects: Amammalia: A strange place where mammals didn't make it and the land is, once again, dominated by archosaurs. Oceanus: An endless sea dotted with islands, reefs, and black holes. Literally endless, literal black holes. ❤️❤️~I'm not a boy~❤️❤️ | |
