| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Ok, new project: 200 mya: No Triassic extinction 150 mya: Triassic-esque extinction, just as dinosaurs begin to take a hold they lose a grip, losing control over the land 100 mya: Cretaceous starts, time of notosuchians, no birds, no mammals 80 mya: Deccan traps extinction 73 mya: Global drying of continents, cooling and sea level drop 65.5 mya: Chixcuclub bolide hits, wiping out aquatic crocodilians and other aquatic reptiles. 50 mya: Suchomammalians and dinosaurs rule the land 25 mya: Extinction that wipes out grasses, making way for new plants Present: World of VERY odd animals |

I do art sometimes. "if you want green eat a salad" Projects: Amammalia: A strange place where mammals didn't make it and the land is, once again, dominated by archosaurs. Oceanus: An endless sea dotted with islands, reefs, and black holes. Literally endless, literal black holes. ❤️❤️~I'm not a boy~❤️❤️

Nice idea, a world of suchomammalians and dinosaurs... Maybe smallish dinosaurs living with large suchomammalians? Also what replaces grass in this world? |

Land has dinosaurs and crurotarsans as dominant, air has sucho mammalians as dominant, water has all three as dominant. Instead of grass, I have mosses, ferns, and trees like arctic willows. Pic of a typical land Suchomammalian, a croc at, and the flying group descended from Suchomammalians coming soon. |

Well when are you gonna post the pic? Suchomammalian bats maybe? With massive 6~7 meter wingspans and azhdarchid lifestyles? Maybe beaks, because beaks are certainley developable in mammalian bats and light beaks are far better than those heavy mammalian jaws... I dunno about aquatic dinosaurs, maybe semi-aquatic but not sea-going really... There are better options. How about aquatic mosasaurian squamates, kind of like varanids? |

They are alverezsaurs, they have legs like those of aquatic birds and have egg pouches to retain eggs until birth. |

Alvarezsaurs... what need do they have to go aquatic? Maybe they end up occupying penguin niches, but what about birds. There were hesperornithes, icthyornithes and pseudodontorns and real penguins, why alvarezsaurs? And I think in this world dinosaur groups won't be so well defined, I would keep to more basal therapodal dinosaurs and maybe prosauropod-like large herbivores/omnivores. |

I was thinking alverezsaurs, basal ceratopsians, basal ornithopods. If you read the description, birds never evolved. |

Following cephie'c style rather than doing individual species wich is very tough. The aquatic alvarezsaurs. They are descendant from penguin-like species that began to develop in SA in the mid-cretaceous in this world. When the compitition from other reptiles went with KT, the alverazsuars took to the oceans. They have evolved over a period of 65 my. They have created a pseudouterus that stores an egg during development. The cloaca is sealed off by a valve to keep water out. However, the female must still excrete. She does this by extracting as much nutrients as possible from her food, then releasing the dry leftovers from a secondary vlave. The valve system includes one at the end of the "uterus" and then one on the cloaca. The forelimbs have evolved into single-clawed fins, rigid like dorsals. The back fin is small, unlike other aquatic animals, and the hindlimbs are retained as very large flippers. This combined with a powerful tail give this group of animals propulsion They have retained dinofuzz as well as developed blubber, creating a double heat trapper. They have sharp knife-like teeth, and their elongated snouts remind one of HE dolphins. Species include: Bottlenose Hind-fin (Planodon truncatus) Rigid Fuzzdolphin (Delphisaurus rigidus) Common Fuzzdolphin (Delphisaurus delphis) |

I can't get the pic up for a few days, the furnace at my house is broken so I'll have to move temporarily to our neighbors house, but when I get back, Tuesday or Wednesday, I'll have it. |

False alarm! As soon as the heat is working, I can go and scan the pic up. It's a common fuzz dolphin. |

You know, you could use the "pseudouterus" on the crocoderms. Yu know that, right? |
|
Projects and concepts that I have stewing around Extended Pleistocene- An alternate future where man died out, and the megafauna would continue to thrive (may or may not include a bit about certain future sapients) Inverted World- An alternate timeline where an asteroid hit during the Barremian, causing an extinction event before the Maastrichtian. Dinosaurs, pterosaurs, and notosuchians make it to the present, along with a host of other animals. Badania- Alien planet that has life at a devonian stage of development, except it exists in the present day. Ido- Alien world where hoppers (derived flightless ballonts) and mouthpart-legged beasts are prevalent. Leto- Life on a moon orbiting a gas giant with an erratic orbit; experiences extremes of hot and cold. The Park- ??? Deeper Impact- a world where the K-Pg extinction wipes out crocodilians, mammals, and birds; squamates, choristoderes, and turtles inherit the earth. World of Equal Opportunity- alternate history where denisovans come across Beringia and interact with native fauna. Much of the Pleistocene fauna survives, and the modern humans that end up crossing into North America do not overhunt the existing animals. 10,000 years later, civilizations exist that are on par with European and Asian societies. The Ditch- Nothing is what if seems..

Yes. I know that. I purposely chose for the crocoderms to come on land and lay eggs. |
