Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

The funeral was Saturday. I probably cried the most.

He's right. We all are on your side.
I do art sometimes.

"if you want green eat a salad"

Projects:
Amammalia: A strange place where mammals didn't make it and the land is, once again, dominated by archosaurs.

Oceanus: An endless sea dotted with islands, reefs, and black holes. Literally endless, literal black holes.

No real other side to take. Seriously mate, the pain lessens over time. Keep a memoir somewhere, like a photo or a birthday card. NEVER FORGET WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE

My cousin Coy made a song for the funeral and said that he could picture all of us (Kenneth, Tom, Erik, Greg, Coy, Me, Natalie, Joey, Shannen) singing the chorus.

The only family member I've ever lost is my great grandpa, and since he died of Alzheimer's I never really got to know him before he didn't know himself. But I've lost friends, and let me just say that although the loss of a family member is hard losing a friend is probably harder. You're closer to family than friends (most of the time), but in the back of your mind there's always that knowledge that you'll outlive most of your family. After all, everybody has to attend their grandparents funeral eventually. But friends? Friends are people you expect to be there forever, you never expect to get that call from their parents.

Remember what you lost, but cherish what you have. You never know what or when the universe will take from you.
We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar.

"The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming

Commiserations Fakey / Brutal.... please accept my condolences...

Its no consolation, but when you get to my age it's a "given"... Lost my dad (almost instantly from a heart attack - and he was 3000 km away), my mother in law (took 2 years due to lung cancer).

Lost mates thru suicide...

Lost a mate when I was teenager from a car accident (he drowned when the stolen car he was in crashed into a canal).

Lost brothers in my motorcycle club (we're clubs NOT gangs!) due to motorcycle accidents...

My paternal grandparents died before I was born, and I was never that close to my maternal grandparents who died about 20 years ago, but I was devastated when I lost my dad nearly 8 years ago - triggered a severe bout of depression.

Suicide? That's rough. I had a friend who tried to kill himself once, but that was before I met him so I can't really say it affected me. But I had a good friend who joined the marines and got shipped out after graduation. Died on his very first mission, victim of an IED.
