In an Earth desiccated by pollution and war, human biologists attempt to study the remaining populations of animals so that the knowledge of Earth's once plentiful animalian organisms can be preserved for future generations. By this point in the future, the natural habitats of many species have been destroyed, forcing scientists to extract information from animals in captivity. Attempting to recreate former ecosystems is a challenge on an overpopulated planet, so a plan is enacted where populations of animals are transplanted to small artificial Earth like planets (in volume they are somewhat smaller than Earth but with greater density resulting in equivalent gravitational forces) and observed for their natural behaviors. On one such planet, the focus was on herpetological research into the lives of crocodiles and alligators. The few remaining species (the Nile crocodile, Australian freshwater crocodile, American alligator, and spectacled caiman) were introduced to the world where other creatures and plants had already been established in preparation for the study. Eventually lack of funds results in the abandonment of the research settlement by the human inhabitants, leaving the biological experiment to nature's own designs. Millions of years later... An entire planet dominated by a crocodylian empire consisting of the typical predators, oceanic giants, and plant-eating armored tanks. These reptiles are joined by giant flightless birds, herds of massive descendants of rabbits and small deer, an array of strange fish, and beetle-ants. |

Fantastic! This project includes all I love, all kinds of crocodiles, giant lagomorphs, strange fish and flightless birds. Please keep on! I am honored to post in a topic by the great creator of this forum. So are you staying, o great Livyatan? |

So are these crocodillians warm or cold blooded? I have heard that some crocodillians (particularly Johnston's crocodile) are either endothermic or tepid-blooded (I know there is a technical term for this, but I forget it). So I'd say an endothermic crocodile would be plausible. |

I'd just like to note that my use of an Earth-like planet was a bit of a cop-out just so I could make a Croc world. Since I left eons ago I have had ideas pop up occasionally and this will be a chance to put my musings to some purpose. |

Well, you could easily make a croc world without an Earth-like planet. Neo P-Tr anyone? |

But the problem is now crocodilians are greatly reduced Probably a Neo P-Tr would result in the neo age of the dinosaurs (excuse my inaccurate term, mesozoic was clearly not dinosaur age anyway), the Age of Avians!!!!!!!!!!Besides, a terraforming project is fun. Different landscapes, different timeline, evolutionary history and extinction events, it has more potential to offer in my opinion.......... |

The crocs won't actually be that greatly reduced. A neo P-Tr would actually allow a lot of crocs and birds through while killing off most mammals. In essence, a croc-ruled world. |

OMG!That would be so awesome!Crocs would replace almost any living mammal. There would be arboreal crocs, land crocs, marine crocs...
