| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! I've gotta say that my favorite is "Your Inner Fish" by Neil Shubin. Though I am partial to "On the Origin of Species" by Darwin. |

I've yet to read the Origin of Species, I've got an abridged version by Richard Leakey. I really recommend the book that goes with Wild Down Under, it's written by several people. Great information and lovely pictures about Australasia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wild_Down_Under http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wild-Down-Under-Natural-Australia/dp/0563488220/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1293999807&sr=1-1 |

I've read the origin of species, but you need to know about recent discoveries on evolution too. |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed."

The best combination is after reading On the Origin of Species is to read Richard Dawkins : The Greatest Show on Earth since he fills in what Darwin missed (especially about genetics) and it really does concrete everything this forum stands for

Combine with something about the science of aliens to round off your collection! |

I've got that book but I stopped reading it because I have so many more fiction books to read. Still only a third of the way though Defender of the Imperium. |

don't Blink. Blink and you're Dead. Don't turn your Back. don't Look Away, and Don't blink. Good luck He never raised his voice. That was the worst thing - the fury of a Time Lord - and then we discovered why. Why this Doctor, who had fought with Gods and Demons, why he had run away from us and hidden. He was being kind. ![]()

We're talking about science, not scieince fiction. Wells did some non-fiction but they were mostly socialist things and wargaming like "Little Wars: a game for boys from twelve years of age to one hundred and fifty and for that more intelligent sort of girl who likes boys' games and books." |

Is it really epic? Will people tell tales and sing songs of you slapping your forehead. Will writers dream of writing something as good as that time your slapped your forehead? Did you even slap your forehead? Stop devaluing words. This is why our economy is so bad, ASDA having warm bread and Victoria Falls are now both "Awesome", the Czechoslovak Legions march though Siberia and a youtube video are both "Epic", a Genius who figures out how part of our universe is the same as a guy who fixes broken Iphones. Wait what were we talking about? Oh right, Colin Smith's got an excellent book about the conflict between Vichy France and the UK called England's Last War Against France: Fighting Vichy 1940-42. The early chapters cover relations from the 19th century and it's really quite interesting. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Englands-Last-War-Against-France/dp/0297852183 |
