Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

I found my plan for my "SE Guide to Xenobiology";

Quote:

Introduction; Why plausibility matters
An overview of xenobiology, why it is necessary to create aliens as plausibly as possible, and a quick idea of what the guide covers.

Life in our Galaxy; Our Solar System and beyond
Xenobiology as a subject, the Drake Equation, and the likelihood of life in our neighbourhood.

In the beginning; Evolution and how it works
The basic fundamentals of evolution, and how life on Earth most likely arose.

Convergent Evolution; What to expect aliens to look like
How convergent evolution, and the usefulness of certain adaptations make certain features likely to arise in alien lifeforms.

The Gulphog; How aliens may adapt to their environments
Covering the Gulphog from National Geographic's Alien Worlds series, and how it is adapted to its environment, as an example.

Other worlds; Planets unlike our own
Several different planetery designs, including moons, chloroxygen/ neon/ etc worlds, and planets orbiting red dwarfs.

Alternative biochemistries; Life and silicon
Alternative biochemistries, including silicon and ammonia, and the definition of life itself.

SE rules of Xenobiology; Xenocentrism and humanesque aliens
Some SE specific rules for project making, including CL's xenocentrism/ terracentrism rules, and humanoid/ humanesque aliens.

Starting up; Useful tips and references
A miscillany of useful pointers, and some links to good examples of projects (such as Nereus), and other useful references (such as the glossary).[.quote]

You might also mention that the study of alien life has various names. Astrobiology, xenobiology, exobiology, etc. Just to help people look up other information they need on their own. It's a little hard to find info on a field that has more than one name.
We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar.

"The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming

Wikipedia has something on different things for different names, like how there's a proposed difference between xeno and astrobiology.
Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea.

Thanks for the support BaliTiger.

What does everybody else think of my idea I know it would be good but when ever brought up it dissapears before truly being adressed. Also before imediately disliking it I would like to point out the rules suggested about plausibillity and detail on the changes within reality I made(which can be expanded apon.).

I think this forum needs a section for projects that are outside of our normal laws of physics either because they are based on fiction or they are like that 2-D project that use to be around here. Of course there needs to be a rule that you must give a plausible explaination for the differences between universes. But it is needed becouse several people have tryed but the difference between reality makes you all ignore those project(this ignoring does not include fiction just original projects).
I like the sound of this and it would be a good place :) although would my project go in there because i like to think that i am an alt person :P thats the issue. There should be more specific criteria perhaps? Maybe if enough people complain about its implausibility it can go there? But then it might seem like a punishment?

Alternate Universes forum has been created, below 'The Habitable Zone'.

Dunno if it is really 'speculative evolution' though.

Hi Fakey I have been good.

Also I think a criteria for the alternate universe section(Which should have a rule topic) should be that any topics that are started there or moved there must have evolution as a main element(kinda a given but outlining it might make things easier) in it's descussion and any changes to physics must be described in a way that atleast has detail and a good explaination.

Yes. Right on with a set of requirements.

There should be premises, then developments on those to make the project.

And welcome back.

Thanks.

Well if I am understanding what you mean about a premise to start with and then develope then I agree.

Though some of the older moved topics will have to be modified to fit these rules I would like to point out.

Indeed they will, but some creators have left.

Taking over of projects?

Maybe not taking projects without permission but redisigning them instead and leaving the old as refferences and examples.

That could work and I like the sound of it "The revisit of 'insert topic here'".
