| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Wow Canis, that list sounds awesome. It would be a huge help to a lot of people! And I know only the very, very basics on plants (I'm doing personal research, but it's very slow going since I have other things to attend to as well) otherwise I'd help you out. The only category I think that could be added would be perhaps links to shows, movies, websites and books on speculative evolution, or on subjects that could help speculative evolution. There might be something like that already, but honestly, I haven't found it on this site, and it's not for lack of trying! |

Thanks Bali. And Fakey, ancestral species are covered in the overview of groups. Selective pressures vary in each scenario. You've got different selective pressures in an icy Wardian scenario than you do in a humid Dixonian scenario. |

And different pressures in a radition-bathed reef environment(Lulz, Spongebob jokes for the win.) and so on, no? I still think it would be worth noting themm in seperate topics.

That's really up to the speculators discretion. I can talk about selective pressures throughout Earth's history, but that would be more infringing on DTFD's territory. |

It isn't anyone's territory. We all have our niche in the Speculative Evolution process. Mine is dreaming up biologiclly possibly Eldcraftrich monsters. |

And I'm sure that's highly valued somewhere. And my niche, though I'm doing a good job expanding into all fields, is and always will be future evo. So, if no one else has any categories for me to include, I'll get started. |

I'm talking about things people don't seem to get in their skulls. Like that damned Rooble thing from an older Fill that Niche. The thing was so mind-numbingly dumb I requested the thing deleted so I wouldn't have to scroll past it and people wouldn't have to vote on it. It was a giant, winged, three eyed, "marsupial monotreme". Trust me, I've had all traces of that damned monstousity wiped off the face of the Earth. Edited by Kamidio, Dec 26 2010, 01:17 AM.

Trust me Fakey: when people see how amazing possible and plausible are, they won't want to go back. That is, if I started out as any speccer bent more on coolness than plausibility. |

Under taxonomy, makes sure to give equal space to Linnaean and phylogeny(I know i could ask you to prioritise cladistics...)!

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

I'd say A+ for this forum, but there is always place for developing, of course. The world of science is infinite. |

perhaps not, the universe is only finite. ![]() And particles aren't infitely reducible. Though, irrationals. |
