| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Yeah i agree with Bali maybe some newer more specific ones which are more obvious maybe a guide pinned on each different category written by someone who is voted by the members of that specific part of the spec? |

Well, I still have the guidelines for an "SE Guide to Xenobiology" that I was going to write, although I haven't had a chance to thus far. |

there are the world-building resources somewhere. |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed."

Yeah, I'd be interested in doing something along Bali's lines, only about future evo. If I do do a guide to future evo, what would you guys like me to include? I've got a general how-to up on the site now, but it doesn't really contain specific info. Suggestions? |

Something about human development, future climates and tectonics, and lots about current wildlife groups! If anyone has any requests for me, i can do something. |

I think this forum needs a section for projects that are outside of our normal laws of physics either because they are based on fiction or they are like that 2-D project that use to be around here. Of course there needs to be a rule that you must give a plausible explaination for the differences between universes. But it is needed becouse several people have tryed but the difference between reality makes you all ignore those project(this ignoring does not include fiction just original projects). |

What do you expect me to do? Spend all day going through every single thread on the forum and responding to every single post? I, like everyone else on the forum, only post in threads I find interesting. I have other things I need to do as well, I can't be expected to spend every waking moment on SE. That's why I have the mods to help me out. I took the job of admin because at the time I was the only one who had experience in running a zetaboards forum and message board administration. I think I'm doing a great job running the place, considering that membership and post count has increased by over 300% since I became admin. I'm not sure what you're getting at, Fakey. |

We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar. "The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming Tree That Owns Itself

I meant people who give equal time to each subject. I'm not sure if anyone will ever compare to Will, however. He's practically a god. |

Actually, I second this. I know of a couple people (Viergacht and myself for example) who have worlds not entirely based in reality, because they are bases for fantasy novels. That doesn't mean that the world is any less about speculative evolution, it just means that some of the rules are different. |

I agree with Bali. I knowl ittle of the lingo of Spec Bio. sure oyu glossery helps but thats only for BIOLOGICAL stuff. If anything we need one for each subject...and Balis '101' idea. |

don't Blink. Blink and you're Dead. Don't turn your Back. don't Look Away, and Don't blink. Good luck He never raised his voice. That was the worst thing - the fury of a Time Lord - and then we discovered why. Why this Doctor, who had fought with Gods and Demons, why he had run away from us and hidden. He was being kind. ![]()

BTW, would somebody be willing to write basic info about plants? I'm basically clueless. I have a basic understanding of how they work, but not much else. Anyway, so far, these are the topics I need to cover for future evo: 1. Terminology 2. Future Climate 3. Future Geography/Tectonics 4. Future Humans (Dixonian scenario)/Human Society (Wardian Scenario) 5. Basic Rules of Taxonomic Names 6. Animal Phyla 7. Major Classes 8. Major Orders Within Chordata 9. Likely Paths of Certain Organisms/Cliches to Including 10. Extinctions Other than that, anything else I should include? And, since I'm gonna try to be detailed with each section, should I include it as one huge post or should I divide it into 10 (or more, if people want me to cover more) sections? |
