| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. Is it possible that planet coudl have a lead based cored instead of an iron one? I was wodnering for my second species soon to be here, the Y'huripe, who evolved on suc ha planet, but unline most suck species, they have elfin body. Their bones are carbon instead of calcium. I just need ot know BEFORE I really start on them. |

don't Blink. Blink and you're Dead. Don't turn your Back. don't Look Away, and Don't blink. Good luck He never raised his voice. That was the worst thing - the fury of a Time Lord - and then we discovered why. Why this Doctor, who had fought with Gods and Demons, why he had run away from us and hidden. I think the biggest problem would simply getting that much lead. Iron seems to be considerably more common, so it would tend to make up more of a planet's core(At least a rocky-planet, anyway) If you did have a planet with 'lead-in-it's-belly'; it would be pretty dense(Lots of gravity) |

That was my idea for tthis planet. I knew Lead was denses stuff currently known. I just thought that perhaps where this planet formed it was VERY rick in the heavier elements, so lead is kinda common. I tried to look up lead core planets but alas I could find no real thing on it. The graviety I was thinking of would be MUCH heavier than earth, so these sapient beings would be quite strong, and if they are fast in the high graviety imagine hwat they arel ike in normal gravity. |

Here's a thought: In our own solar system, Mercury has one of the highest denisity. Some science-types believe this is because early in it's history; Mercury got clobbered by another planet/huge aseteroid, the resulting event drove off most of Mercury's outer crust, leaving most of it's iron-core, though. This had the effect of actually INCREASING the overall density. Iron, I recall, has a average density of about 7.3 times that of water. The planet earth's density is about 5.5. If you had a planet the had so much of it's crust knocked off somehow, leaving only iron behind, you would have a mighty dense planet. |

Thank you Iowa(Unsure what to call you). Perhaps a planet with an iron-lead core that was left behind afterm ost of the out crust was gone......This will be fun! any other advice would be welcome.

Just wait until I get the sapient race done, THEY will be interesting. Ho many times would the gravity be comapoed to earth? the core is iron-lead.......so maybe aroundv 3-5? Or is that too much? |

I doubt you could have a lead based core. Lead is relatively uncommon compared to Iron, for example. The concentration of lead in the solar system is extremely low compared to Iron. The upside is that you can increase density by having more iron and less silicates. You run into problems there as well but a Mercury-like scenario could be quite possible. |
| A hard mathematical figure provides a sort of enlightenment to one's understanding of an idea that is never matched by mere guesswork. | |
