Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Dinosaurs eat man, woman inherits the Earth.

That asteroid was only a mile wide while the one that killed the dinos was 6 miles wide.

So what would have happened if the asteroid that created the Chesapeake Crater was 6 miles wide as well? Obviously, it would cause most mammals to become extinct and would either cause a new lineage of mammals to arise or creature an avian-ruled world.

Thoughts on extinctions and what could arise?

Yes, I met the rhinogrades. Very, very, very, very, very implausible.

Thanks for clearing up the evolutionary history of the talpids. I'm no paleontologist (futurology is my specialty), so any info is greatly appreciated.

In that case, heavy-set ungulates arising from talpid ancestors would be great! Though I still think that the lagomorphs could produce a more gracile ungulate species (Dixon did make quite an impression on me).

Okay then so we now have mole rhinos and ungulate rabbits. Although could we not have animals which are too much like rabbucks? I mean is there no other alternatives to lagomorphs could we have something completely new as the agile grazer?

So besides lagomorphs and multis, what else could evolve into gracile herbivores at this time?

Various rodents and marsupials, kangaroos and wallabies mabye even large wombats?Perhaps even some phorusrhacids would survive and remain dominant. (Sorry if I'm way off this isn't really my subject.)

(Nor is it mine. Your guess is as good as mine)

Great idea though. Birds dominating the gracile herbivore niche everyone?

Yep. Diatryma-like things possibly. Like those gorilla birds from Spec.
