| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Oh fair enough it's under your main spoiler. WHat would you propose from it? |
|
Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

Popular Name: Ddraig Goch. Dimensions: 9 meters from snout to tip of tail. 3 meters from top of head to bottom of feet. Each wing is 20 square meters. 5 tons. Feeds on: The Greater Welsh Fox, Welsh Sheep, Apples. Where found: The Welsh Plateulands. Predators: None, Apex Predator. The Ddraig Goch is a descendant of The Welsh Crocodile*. Being a crocodille, it kills by crushing its prey, but it will only do this o small prey. It has endothermy and chases it's prey off of cliffs. Before other predators can get the prey, the Ddraig jumps down and glides in a circle around the corpse. Once the Ddraig reaches the body, it eats its fill and carries leftovers back to the nest. A very caring parent, the Ddraig makes sure that is chicks get even amounts of care. Once the chicks reach the age of 3 they move out, ready to fend for themselves. The Ddraig have a family group like that of lions, only it is more spread out, thus allowing these animals to not compete amongst each other. These animals are threatened and are the national animal of Wales, and being such, you must have a liscense to hunt it. *Animal from 250 myf. |

How can 5 tons get in the air on only 40 m^2 of downthrust, where the pressure form each metre must be actually quite low to prevent membranes ripping? |

From the tops of cliffs... Wouldn't it be easier to climb down? Or kill prey with the teeth until they're dead? |

Well cliff selection isn't a hard thing to do. Cliffs with more acute angles... and gliding is dangerous too. Especially for juveniles. or, as i said, cut out the root of the problem and kill them with yer teeth. |
