| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. Suppose that in the Americas civilization thrived* and that more large animals lived. What could they have tamed? Mastodon? Cuvieronius? *I'm not saying they did not produce some advanced cultures, but for some reason it never took off the way it did in Eurasia. |

Most likely they'd use the native camels and horses and pronghorns. Elephants, being smart and having lots of testosterone, are very difficult to tame, although Mastodons might have been tamer or something. |

Elephants are not that hard to tame, people have been doing it for millennia in India. |

Hmm well maybe Glyptodonts would be farmed for their armour, which could be used to make armour for battle |

Yeah, but I doubt they would be much harder to tame. Elephas and Loxodonta are pretty distant and they can both be tamed. |

I doubt most of the animals would be good for taming. Wolves or coyotes could be selectively domesticated, for more dogs. Raccoons or martens, maybe. And some of the larger herbivores. |
|
Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

Yes India. They also did it in the middle east and North Africa, but those elephants became extinct. Also South East Asia, but India is the most famous place for taming elephants. I wonder if North America's horses would be better or worse than our Tarpan descended ones. |

Yeah you can tame elephants, it's just you can't beat them mercilessly in submission like the smaller critters. I dunno Lamna, them ancient horses were mighty delicious. |
