Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

This series is quite intriguing. It's about a future in which, somehow, all male mammals on earth died, and as consecuence, every mammal went down to extinction in a blink of an eye. The only survivors are the protagonist and his pet monkey.

What kind of future ecology and life forms could arise in this situation?

Not only mammals would fall, but also other mammal-dependant species, such as snakes that feed on small mammals, and vultures that depend on big predator's leftovers. I have to admit this is a very interesting alternative for the every-increasing number of Future Projects with bats, rodents and lagomorphs as future rulers of the world. What do you think?

I'd like to see nile crocs move up on land further, those things can run, and without lions or hyenas or anything to get in their way they could diversify.

Of course... there's the whole deal where they eat mostly mammals and when those suddenly die off there's going to be some serious issues...
Oh Fine.

Silver Slave's right. I want Big-ass Scary-looking dinosaurs. Plus, there is a hot debate weather or not birds are dinos. I think the Tetrapod Zoology Blog once made a post about it.

Nile crocs would rip yo' shit if you're a secretary bird.

And I'm pretty sure birds are just stubby tailed flying dinos. With beaks.

Dinos had beaks too... so... that last part isn't so special.

Birds are dino's. We have a bunch of transitional species to prove that. Maybe they are and maybe they aren't in taxonomy, but they are dinos with cladistics (which counts).

But stop this debate, this is for debating about a mammal-less world, not if birds are dinos.

It'd be not much different than the world before mammals.
