| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! I bet that most of you have seen that the way technology is going, people will start replacing lost hands or legs with robotic ones. What do you think about this? |

But I copied the info into my computer from my mind to a temporary "memory", the info is then copied to the computer that houses all these comments, -the memory on my computer is then wiped-, then your computer temporarily copies the memory from the main computer, you read it and so you copied it from your computer into your own memories, -then your computer wipes that temporary memory as you switch to a new page-. Or something like that... But yeah, that's probably the closest that we've gotten to actually transferring information... |

Nothing is entirely safe from those hacks etc... people will get to it eventually.
I fail to see how a simulation of the brain is a transfer of the real thing. It's like saying that if I take a picture of a flower in Australia, and fly that picture to the US, I have now transferred that flower to the US... |

That's what I'm saying T.neo if you read what I said, I said that I don't think people have ever transferred information like that, copied them perfectly yes, but never actually transferred. Using your example what he's saying is that you dig up the flower from Australia, and fly the flower over to the US, then replant it in American soil. I don't see how you can do that without gradually replacing parts of the cells bit by bit until you have replaced the cells entirely while they continued to function much as what would happen if you replaced a ship board by board until you replaced it completely. But that's hardly a transfer so much as a transform. |

I wonder if it is possible to remote pantograph across the planet? If so, A robotic suit might be able to transfer movement across the planet. I know its not the same as mind transfer but with the proper sensors a simulated presence of you could be transferred. I think doctors are now doing this. With tactile and olfactory sensors advancements it might be a realistic approach to a virtual human being. But the source brain will still be organic. Might open opportunities for advanced deep ocean exploration. Time delay would probably prohibit its use in space exploration tho. |

Of course there are many benefits to becoming a cyborg. When robotic beings take over the world and poison our asses, using poisonous gases. Well technically our lungs. If you were cyborg you could be a shiny Quisling, or an Eggs Benedict as the Columbians say. Edited by lamna, Nov 27 2010, 05:05 PM.

When robotic beings take over the... wait what? Seriously? Isn't that supposed to be nonsense? Anyway, if they poison our asses, uh, lungs, that's when you use a gas mask... |

Highly unlikely that a robot would actually want to become a human being. That could be possible only in some cartoon.

If it's lateral thinking it wants, use some wetware and that's fine. But any other part... mechanical works better. We don't know if lateral thinking can be done with computers y'see. |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |
