| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Would it be possible for humans to die out and then re-evolve? Over time, would it be possible for primates to become sapient over a long time, again and again? |

Primates, except humans, have suffered so much they'll probably never reach that point again. Sapience's arrival in us required massive environmental, predatory, and anatomical change. Unlikely that iot wouild happen again. |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

Well, primates are one of the most diverse and intelligent groups of mammals, as well as generalists, so I don't see why not. Maybe if the rain forests of Africa, Asia and the Americas were completely destroyed, but even then I think many would survive, they're so adaptable. Oh, and don't forget about baboons! |

People... a good definition is lacking. Primates may be generalists, but the things that are needed to set up such an act as sapience Spug... And aside from us, there are no fully grounded primates. And there are unlikely to be more. |

It pretty much was. Maybe not when running from predators or sleeping. Anyway, and? What's your point? |

If it sleeps in trees and escaping preators, then that counts as not fully grounded. |

People like humans have slept in trees and used them to escape from predators. Are we not grounded? |

That's rather... odd. We live more than 99% of our lives on the ground, i reckon we're grounded as animals. |

Nope. We walk in buildings several feet above ground level. We use vehicles that make it so our feet never touch the ground. We are not grounded. |

If we walk on a surface, we're grounded. And just what proportion of your life have you spent in a vehicle? |

Grounded means to touch the ground. As in, the Earth. However, we never touch Earth herself, only concrete. |
