| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Registration is free and instantaneous. Join our community today! |

off to the guillotine with the lot of them far as I care... the sooner we're a republic the better... lets hope some politician doesn't sabotage the next referendum... I respect ol' Bess, but ponce Charles and his offspring can go ___ themselves... I'd never swear an oath to that bignosed beady eyed dumbo-eared git or anything of his spawn... |

Hear Hear! in all seriousness though, i hope the next referendum actually has the option most Australians want, a republic where the president isn't a figurehead of no importance but an actual leader (similar to the USA) in fact i don't know why there should even be talk of useless figureheads. |

Because the parliamentary system of government, both republican and monarchical has proven remarkably robust in providing long term stable democracies? Of 22 nations that are wildly agreed to have been free democracies since 1950, 20 use the parliamentary system. Only the USA and Costa Rica let their head of state have a lot of power, though the French have their own difficult way of doing things. To me giving a head of state real power is like using the flag as a napkin. It's not what it's for and things tend to get messy. |

Thats exactly what i was saying. A head of state is useless, what we want is a leader. |

To lead what? We don't need leaders right now, we need more Gordon Brown-style chancellors. (He was a good chancellor. Bad PM. Very bad PM.) |

He was generally considered one of the best Chancellors of Europe in his time. Better than anything Thatcher did. He didn't make us totally reliant on another countries for everything or make large amounts of the North unemployed. |

Humans evolved to want a strong leader, that's what we needed in the past. But like racism, we've come to a point when a perfectly natural urge has become detrimental to society rather than helping it. Figureheads are to stop us becoming loyal to some nasty Politician with a vision. |

Doing things with his power pretty much exactly what the Presidents position is for. I can't say much for Costa Rica, but the entire US government was built around a system of balances between the Judicial branch, Executive branch, and the Legislative Branch. |
