| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Hey everyone. Long time no see. I was on a message board chatroom the other day and had a conversation with a biologist who was presenting an argument in favor for creationism. I was basically just wondering if his points were valid and how I could respond to this argument next time. Here is the convo: Me: So what is the Creationist explanation for things like vesitigial structures & embryology? What about how scientists have done DNA tests and found and that animals like dogs, coyotes, wolves are related to each other? Biologist: it takes a religious type of "faith" for biologists to SEE them as "related to each other" Biologist: there is absolutely no connecting evidence Biologist: "LOOK!!! this animal's parts sort of resemble this other's when they're babies!!!" Biologist: growing into multicellular oraganisms from a single cell does not mean the species are related Biologist: if they were related in any way, then genetically they'd be able to reproduce later on: Me:: But [Biologiost] there are plenty of examples of animals mating and producing infertile offsprings. Wouldn't this mean they were at one time the same species but now are diverging? Me:: Either male or female Ligers are infertile. Biologist: that's because a Lion and Tiger are the same species Me: if they are same species then why are the offspring infertile not fertile? Biologist: they are not infertile Biologist: go study actual biology Biologist: laughs Biologist: lions and tigers breeds of the same species. Just like poodles and German shepards are breeds of dogs. Biologist: the faster You learn this, the better off You'll be Me: Wouldn't it be an example of a species-- which diverged-- and can still produce offspring-- but the offspring is infertile? Wouldn't this prove evolution? Biologist: it certainly does NOT say God made them separate Biologist: the definition of scientific law includes that a cruxial experiment must be able to be performed Biologist: where under the same conditions the same results are found each time Biologist: otherwise it's only a theory Biologist: which is something You'd learn if You actually studied science under peer reviewed professionals at a University Edit: deleted the references to the bible since I don't this thread to turn into a religious discussion. I would cry, hoepfully away from his face so he doesn't get any more ammo for describing how worthless at science evolutionists are. Is he actually a real biologist? He doesn't sound like it, I would imagine he would have failed biology pretty fast.

What Neo said. He probably just called himself a Biologist to give his own words more weight. Or he was just a troll, that's also possible. |

I would just ignore him, Flash. He's clearly not a biologist, if he is showing such a lack of understanding of the subject. Regarding people who say that there is no example of "evolution in action" - doesn't microbial evolution count? I mean, the fact that we get a new strain of 'flu every winter... Yeah, but that's micro evolution! Not macro evolution! Or some rubbish, most likely pertaining to the fact that it's "just germs" and not dinosaurs or whatever. |
