Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

What if the K-T extinction was science fiction? I want to create a world were raptors use tools and primitive weapons and where the tyrannosaurids have died out and Abeliasaurids have taken over. How can I make this possible?

I think intelligent Pachycephalosaurs are very unlikely because, well, they got their name "thick-skulled lizard" because they have very thick skull bones around a rather tiny brain.

I´m not a fan of sapient Ornithischians at all as I think predators have a better chance of becoming sapient than plant-eaters (since they need intelligence for bringing down prey or hunting in packs; most plant-eaters aren´t very bright). And so far the only meat-eating Ornithischian I know of are Ceratopsians and I think they have thick skulls and small brains, too.

Well than, if sapient ornithischians aren't plausible, maybe you can try sapient azhdarchids. Pterosaurs had a pretty high intelligence, and people haven't really made a full project about sapient azhdarchids. Or if you really want to do therapods, I guess you can do sapient unenlagiines, oviraptorosaurs or descendent of some arboreal dromaeosaurs which eats arboreal mammals.

And Slivovica, I think ceratopsians would clear that niche out before pachycephalosaurs get a chance. Maybe a pachycephalosaur like that existing in an isolated mountain range?

And UT, are you going to include tyrannosaurs after all?

Indeed we could have bison analogues roaming the great plains. Or a ceratopsian beak may have trouble with eating grass so other dinosaurs take over the savannahs and plains. Ceratopsians then become smaller more deer like animals, maybe we could have ceratopsian giraffes. I explored this idea in my project but did not go into detail.
