| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. What if the K-T extinction was science fiction? I want to create a world were raptors use tools and primitive weapons and where the tyrannosaurids have died out and Abeliasaurids have taken over. How can I make this possible?

You'll still need a K-T extinction, probably from the Deccan Traps or possibly even a smaller asteroid maybe you should have a world where dinosaurs survived the K-T event, some maniraptorans, primitive abelisaurids, some basal coelurosaurs and some ceratopsians with some basal ornithischians; the smaller and the more adaptbale dinosaurs competing with mammals and other sauropsids i hope you have the realistic dinosauroids, not the bug-eyed scaly humans |

spec has too many dinosaurs in it, and there are some inaccuracies in the old version (I personally don't know too well about the new spec going on at yahoo) I wish they will make a new website or update the old one, just wish that they are going to do it soon, but I'm still pretty happy just with the fact that spec is not dead. EDIT: I also like povorot's project as well Edited by Cephylus, Nov 2 2010, 04:44 AM.

I agree, povorot's project is a good one. I like the idea of tyrannosaurids becoming extinct as in most of these sorts of projects they are usually top predators. |

maniraptors would be propably always most succesfull dinosaurs in later cenozoic perhaps some primitive ceratopsians (descendant of psittacosaurus or its near relatives)could evolve ,,quil coat,, and became more cold resistant |

Well UT that is exactly what happens in my project (yes alot of sh*t goes down on Omnia Sanatem ) i personally dislike tyrannosaurs also i find them unlikely candidates to survive abelisaurs were far more robust animals and were more like the dogs of the period probably filling multiple niches instead of just being the all time killing machine that tyrannosaurs were which is similar to modern day big cats which are very specialised large predators.

My Raptors aren't super intelligent but the use clubs ,knifes, spears and live in simple 'huts'. I like Tyrannosaurids but I think they are often a little bit too over exaggerated. I mean people always think of them as the top predators and nothing in the world can beat them. I have this sort of rivalry before the Tyrannasarids become extinct between them and the Abeliasaurids. The Tyrannasaurids seem to have the fight in the bag but a sudden change of climate triggers Trex's food to die out. Some Abeliasaurids start to hunt in packs. With the dissapearence of food and the growing numbers of Abeliasaurids the Tyrannosaurids die out. With no more competition the Abeliasaurids start to get really big. Some even rivaling Spinosaurus in size. |

I know I said I wasn't going to have Tyrannosaurids but do you think it would be alright if they inhabited the poles and have this sort of feathery coat like fur. And they haven't gone extinct because Abeliasaurids cant go there. This is sort of like a vote. If I get more votes for Trex's in the pole Ill put them in there. If not Ill kill them off. |

I've made the poll single choice ![]() I would say no. Tyrannosaurid lack of feathers will be a disadvantage in the poles. |
