| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Finland was perfectly okay on their own. That had Simo "White MOTHER F**CKING Death" Hayha on their side. |

You can't compare any of those empires with what happened in WWII. The Second World War was a new kind of war, one in which civilians were intentionally the victims. Bombing a city from planes and brutally occupying it is far different from having armies meet on some barren wasteland and slice each other up with blades. And how can you possibly say that about the Romans and Mongols? First of all, the Romans gained a large empire because they were practically the only civilization in the area; they fought barbarians. It was in no way a fair fight, in fact you could say they were overwhelmed. And the Mongols used their superior numbers and mobility to carve a swath of terror through Eurasia. Why do you think they're called the Mongol Horde? To sound classy? To say the Aztecs had an empire is stupid. That's not the way things worked in Mesoamerica, war was a ritualistic thing. They didn't "conquer" anything, they just sacrificed more of everyone else and thus gained cultural dominance. And don't even get started on European empires, all they did was overwhelm peoples centuries behind them in terms of technology with superior firepower and terrorism. I live on Earth, I'm not sure what world you're living in. |

We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar. "The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming Tree That Owns Itself

Finland was defeated. They made them pay for it, but the USSR archived all it's aims. |

One man took out a huge chunk of the army with a hunting rifle, without a scope. He scared the frozen piss out of the Soviets so much they called him "Belaya Smert" literally "White Death". Now imagine him teaming up with Yadav, Alivin, Audie, and Mad Jack. No army would have stood before these giants of the battlefield. |

@Parasky, Err, You said that numbers are superior to weaponry and tactics, i stated numerous empires in fact subjugated a great many people through the use of superior weaponry and tactics, Like the Romans for example, a fact you just pointed out. And World War 2, how does the bombing of civilians effect whether or not numbers are superior to firepower and strategy? After all what about the Battle of Britain? Sounds like the blokes with superior technology and weaponry as well as tactics won that fight. |

Lamna- i arranged them by order of who lost the most people out of the allies. |

Who lost the most does not matter when it comes to deciding who contributed most. If Alien Space Bats from Outer Space fought for the allies, ending the wars in half a hour and losing nobody, they would have contributed most. |

@Everyone who thinks the russians could have replaced all their military gear quickly, look at a map of russia and all the countries that broke away from it at the end of the cold war. put your finger on Arc angel (a city in northern russia) draw your finger down to volgograd, from their continue straight down until you hit the turkish border. as soon as the germans had control of this area than their would be one industrial area in the entire USSR, i hope i don't have to tell you what that means

Ooooh! Me Sir I know! The Germans would have had to occupy a vast area, 40% of Europe, full of a hostile local population, with supply lines stretched to breaking point as General Mud and General Winter ground them down. |

Good point, Lamna has the right idea, the logistics and morale were what won the Eastern Front, the quality/quantity of soviet troops was important but not as much as most of you think. so can i stop patronising all of you now? |

No. Lamna- well that's the other extreme isn't it. Generally, casualties and duration of action correlate... and territory gained or held too. |
