| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. The only one I know that involves war and has a character that isn't a wimp or a psychopath is Avatar. I don't know what that says, really. |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

Exactly. Why don't we have more heroic films these days? If the media had just reported the Tet Offensive in particular and the Vietnam war as a whole properly then cinema would be a whole lot better. Now we're all whiny bitchs who can't seem to understand sometimes you have to fight to protect what is right. |

Well then, what war film DOES have the hero not come off as a psychopath or a wimp, if I may ask? |

Hurtlocker. I'm using psychopath to caste a broad net, but the guy in the film (terrible with names) takes crazy stupid risks for fun. I suppose that's the only way to make bombtechs exciting. Damned heros in real life but they don't have the intensity of infantry or armour. Is the Expendables good? When I heard about it the first thing I thought was "This is too awesome to be possible, it will suck" |

From what I heard, it was pretty good. Manliest film every. If guns, fast cars, and an explosion mated, this movie would be the result. Edited by Kingpin, Oct 9 2010, 07:37 PM.

That's a horrible summary of a movie about children's card games. This movie is much more awesome than guns and crap like that. |

I was talking about the Expendables, obviously. But I don't really consider any Abridged Series anything to be an actual movie. Edited by Kingpin, Oct 9 2010, 07:37 PM.

I won't watch it, I like to know as little about a film before I see it as possible. Kick Ass and Zombieland are both great movies for similar reasons. They take well known and liked genres that have been picked apart for ages by people, put them back together and had some fun. Edited by lamna, Oct 10 2010, 06:36 AM.
