Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Actually, one of our very own even gave me a valuable plot point (referred to as an 'adaptation' in the screenwriting profession) last year that I'm going to employ in my script.

The idea is inspired by the movies "Equilibrium," "Battlefield Earth," "The Children of Men" and "Doomsday" and one of my favorite books "Fahrenheit 451."

Here we go.

Untitled Dystopian Action Thriller

Story and Screenplay by Yorick
Adaptation by Lamna

Quote:

Sometime in the middle of the 21st century, an accidental nuclear war erupted after terrorist cyber attack and unleashed America's nuclear arsenal on Russia who in turn launched theirs on America which devastated the entire planet.

It is the 22nd century, over 100 years after the war that killed billions through radiation and famine. Great Britain has long since isolated itself from the rest of the world, cutting all communications from the outside. A theocracy with absolute power governs the people. Angry at how technology has caused such misery the powerful theocracy that rose from the ashes banned advanced technology long ago. Great Britain has resorted to a medieval society and it's not any more advanced then it was in the 17th century. (In some ways, even more primitive since guns and cannons are banned too.) Books published before the after the early 18th century were all burned and banned.

It is an oppressive regime since witch hunts are frequent but the people are usually happy because they don't know any better and they have gotten rid of so much death and destruction that technology brought as well as the threat of another nuclear holocaust and family is at the forefront of their lives.

It has been so long since the theocracy banned advanced technology that our past civilization has become a legend. Science and advanced technology is considered to be 'magic' and stories are told about fantastic things like flying carriages (airplanes) or horseless carriages (automobiles) or these tiny boxes used to talk to anyone anywhere in the world (cell phones) and temples of golden arches where food was made available in a matter of minutes if not seconds (McDonald's restaurants).

The police and the army are made up of knights under the command of theocracy that has absolute power. Our protagonist is one such knight. He's a good and loving young man who cares about honor and duty.

I'm sketchy about the details at this point but he falls in love with a very smart and defiant young woman (though he doesn't know how he feels at first). While on patrol, he discovers the young woman and her widowed father are committing the most serious of crimes-reading about the Time Before and practicing 'magic.'

Something happens and the knight doesn't bust them and he learns the truth about the past and realizes what theocracy is doing is wrong. There's an adventure and even a car chase scene. (The knight comically even says when looking at a car for the first time: Unbelievable! A horseless carriage!)

It's discovered that the oppressive theocracy breaks its own rules and is using advanced technology to spy on and control the people better.

The knight and his accomplices destroys the regime once and for all.

Now let's all try to fill in the gaps. Any ideas? Suggestions?

That sounds... A lot like Equilibrium. I suggest Keanu Reeves for the main role.
We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar.

"The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming

Don't even joke!

Besides, the character is in his early-to-mid twenties.

Then I suggest Shia Lebeouf. Or perhaps Michael Cera, he's quite popular these days.

Hmm Please use English actors....if its set in England please use them they are just as talented as american ones and also tend to be put in much better films ;)

I recommend Daniel Craig as the main character he was brilliant in "Defiance" maybe Emma watson (shes sooo fit) also i would have Sir Michael Cain....

I don't care about actors' ethnicities. Just be convincing and you'll be cast. Like I've said, the character is in his early-mid twenties. And can we try to figure out what happens in between discovery and the end where the regime is destroyed? I know the regime will be destroyed when their hypocrisy is exposed but how can we do that?

Grrr I cannot bear to watch films set in England when the cast is american...
Well i think a cool scene would be maybe a jousting tournament in the ruins of Twickenham...maybe thats how the protatgonist gets noticed by leadership as an excellent jouster

Would you like some help with the english setting?
