| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. They were just camps where the Boer civilians were concentrated to keep them under control and out of the way. And I was thinking setting these "Southerns" between the Great Trek and the Second Matabele War. Films about the Spanish, Argentinians and Chileans in Araucania and Patagonia might be good too. Argentina would have a great ethnic mix that would make it a really interesting setting. Good place for a Welsh language film. Speaking of unpopular turn of the century campaigns, a film about British Expedition to Tibet would be rather good. |

Every Celtic Bedtime Storybook Ever. Street Sharks, Jabber Jaw, The Crocodile Hunter. Chowder, Misadventures of Flapjack, Adventure Time, My Little Pony. Done way too many times. Tim Burton Movies, Hentai, The Discovery Channel. George Carlin. George Carlin. "Reality" Television. George Carlin. Most of the stuff that happens in my head. Sorry Johnny, but you've been beaten to to the punch. |

We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar. "The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming Tree That Owns Itself

I think we should also use this thread to throw out some ideas we've had that might help other people with their stories. One I've got is for a way to generate artificial gravity. I call it a "Virtual Mass Generator," the basic idea is that it "tricks" the universe into thinking something has more mass than it does, thus generating more gravity. How exactly it works is unimportant, it's just technobabble. |

Bah, compared to the Graviton Portal Device the VMS is no better than magnetic boots. The GPD just opens up a portal and pulls you down to Earth, Mars or wherever, but the portal does not allow anything else to pass though, not even screaming voices from beyond the unknown. |

Parasky- sounds like a tricksy mass effect field to me. But Lamna, thousands died in those camps. |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

A good film would be one about the Falklands war....so many films about Afghanistan and Iraq but none about the Falklands. Imagine the scene when the Argentinian battleship sinks that would be incredible to watch. As our brits have to watch as they liberate those few sheep farmers. Also the bleakness of the islands would make for an awesome setting |

Only the Americans had battleships in the 80's. You are probably thinking of the cruiser, ARA General Belgrano. A film about the Falklands War might be good, young men being sent to die, just to distract the Argentinian people from the crimes of their government. |

I thought it would also be interesting to delve into the resistance movement in Argentina at the time and the horrible crimes commited by the government. I dont know who i would cast though, maybe Daniel Craig as a british officer? |

The fun thing is how these would work if mixed together and imagined in a special way. Many of the things that have all of these barely resemble each other.
This one's new. Still, I kinda predicted it; some of the comments you leave on my stuff do make more sense if seen through the sarcasm lens |

Do you mean the Dirty War? I was watching the Black Lagoon OVA today and Hotel Moscow made think about mercenaries. Here is my Idea. Black and White. Two mercenaries in the 1990's. One from Rhodesia's (Zimbabwe) British South Africa Police, Support Unit, AKA the Black Boots, a bit like SWAT. The other the former USSR, one of the (Probably) mythical White Stockings, Anti-Soviet and Anti-Russian mercenaries, mostly Baltic though some are said to be Ukrainian and some even Black. That might make a good contrast, White African and a Black Russian travelling round Africa and the former USSR. Maybe helped out by some Yugoslavs or South Africans. I've always found the idea of warriors exiled from their homeland after a regime change fascinating. Edited by lamna, Nov 1 2010, 05:29 PM.

Did I write here about my fantasy story idea? It's kind of like a inverted Twilight. The romance elements are secondary, to the plot, the main character is male and the love interest is a werewolf, thus creating actual problems and conflicts, vampires vary in personality from aspergers to serial killers. |

I actually quite liked the drama Being Human i thought that was pretty good, it was pretty much a very dark version of twilight and without all the faggoty pixies in it as well
