| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. Well i am considering writing a novel set in the world of Omnia Sanatem about a group of criminals who are being hunted across the world...but what they uncover is far more sinister and then it is a race against time as each of them are being picked off by shady government forces or vicious beasts in the wilderness to try and save civilization from and enemy who has been around for millions of years |

My friend has plans to write a story based on Vabmojer, about an escaped convict and his trials in the wild. Looks like great minds think alike, D4tD.

I'd also like to write a story about some of my Alternate History worlds, mainly focusing on wars. Particularly I'd like to do my Red and the Grey timeline and my Pax Germania ones. Red and the Grey starts in the 1860's where the American Civil War link up with the French Intervention in Mexico and the January Uprising in Russian Poland becoming a 8 year global conflict. Spoiler: click to toggle After Poland and the CSA become independent and a brief war between Confederates who support the terms of the treaty (which outlaw slavery) and those who don't the world starts to recover, with Russia and the USA licking their wounds, Japan, Germany, Mexico and the CSA trying to carve a place out for themselves. Then in 1918 a Polish nationalist murders a German politician and the world falls into war again. Imagine if WW1 had stayed mobile, and happen in North America too. Spoiler: click to toggle Later on in Iberia breaks out into a multi-sided civil war, between the Liberal Governments, Conservatives and Socialists/Republicans. Spoiler: click to toggle Pax Germania is an altogether different beast. It deals with German's rise to superpower status, defeated all rivals. First they leave Russia a divided wreck with the civil war continuing to present. Then they beat back Britain and France in the 30's, and conqoured the USA in the 50's. |

Well, it is better than Star Wars. But you can get some scientifically plausible space opera, like Larry Niven's Known Space universe. Still, it is worth it to include scientific stuff wherever possible. And most importantly: Be Internally Self Consistant. You don't want your FTL working one way one time and differently the next. |

I'll admit, the US and Communism rarely do well in my Alternate Histories, and Republicanism and Nationalism don't do all that well either. I've also started a new thing with a (sorta) three way cold war between the Franco-Russian Alliance, the German Empire and the British aligned neutrals who generally try to keep them from destroying each other (France started the Grand War of 1945-48, Germany won it, but Britain Ended It.). Now the German Empire in this timeline isn't "our" German Empire or Bismarck and Wilhelm II. It was Austria who lead unification, not Prussia. Thanks to this it's rather more liberal and friendly with Britain, and a good deal larger. Here is what I have so far. I'd love to be able to turn them into novels. With the British Confederation (and Japan, Portugal, Scandinavia, Spain etc) threatening to declare war on anyone who uses Nuclear Weapons it leaves open the possibility for a modern war without the threat by being vaporised. Well, diminished threat. http://lamnay.deviantart.com/art/Franco-Russian-Alliance-178735989?q http://lamnay.deviantart.com/art/Germany-and-her-allies-177784092?q Edited by lamna, Oct 3 2010, 10:23 AM.

I've got a shedload and then another few sunloads of ideas, but here's my current favourite. It's a fantasy world background i submitted to the simulator. Encompassing lots and leaving stuff to happen. Possible alternate history: Spoiler: click to toggle

Yes. Yes. And another yes. "The darkest corners of Africa have been ravaged by man's poisons, but this small group of college students have come to the rescue. They're here to clean up the mess, chat with the locals, and of course, party all night. But, in this part of the Darkest Continent, there lurks a sinister presence...and it's hungry. Hungry. Hungry. Hippos. (aka Triple H) Rated R." |

Kingpin, check out Jericho if you have not already. I'll just say that it's one of those shows were it best to know as little as possible before starting. The BBC Day of the Triffids adaptation from 2009 is also rather good and the original book is excellent. I'd avoid the 1962 film though, unless you hard a pair of snarky robots to watch it with. I had an idea for a Multi-verse story but it steals a bit too much from these http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Neanderthal_Parallax http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Two_Georges http://www.unet.univie.ac.at/~a0000265/Spec/ |
