Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Got an idea for a book or show you would like to share? Put it here.

I've got a vague idea for a ship based Sci-Fi, mostly focusing on a survey ship from the Expeditionary Fleet of the Imperial Federation of Terra. EF is a bit like the US Coastguard or the British Antarctic Survey. Separate from the the navy (Battle Fleet) they seek out new life and all that good stuff. When it comes to optimism and general tone it would be about in the middle between a standard star trek show and a mirror episode.
The wider setting would tell of the young Empire looking for redemption after the cruelties and injustices of the previous United Republic of Humanity and the Emperor juggling democracy and the fact that the public don't always make good choices.
It would also look at the integration of persecuted individuals, the various aliens humanity has conquered, cyborgs, xenophiles.
Also the old guard, those who liked the old regime very much thank you and don't want a tyrant telling them to love perverts, Clankers and Inhumans.

That's all I have for the moment.

No, I'm not going to share any of my premises. I have very few of them and they're all crap.

As for your idea lamna, please, please, please try to make it scientifically plausible, or at the very least, try to work in scientific elements...

lamna, if you can wrap all of that up in some sort of narrative, then it'd be absolutely brilliant.

As for my own "premise"...I actually have too many.

Ooh, lets see.
My main one is Wide Spectrum, definitely. Still working on a clear plotline with it.
Possibly my all-encompassing fantasy world idea, but needs a base really.

I doubt I can, I intend this really to throw around ideas for stuff I doubt I can do. But I have some ideas. There would be three main settings. The Survey ship, around the Emperor (mainly in the capital, Phoenix) and in Battle Fleet. I'm thinking maybe the Capitan is married to someone in Battle Fleet.

And what do you mean by scientifically plausible? I mean it's space opera and it's not easy to do hard SF space opera. I'd keep it pretty hard, about Quartz level. Nobody's hybridizing with aliens*, and none look like people in make-up, but there will be FTL, and some noise in space, but the muted kind like in BSG. Space Battles are fought mainly over very long ranges but lasers will be visible for the viewers.

*Not for lack of trying. *creepy wink*

If we're going on scifi premises, I have a few that stick out.

One involves the Galactic Federation, a small collective of neighboring planets on the other end of the galaxy. It's home to a variety of somewhat humanoid aliens, from the monkey-like Morkril to the Scythn (aliens that look a lot like living winged skeletons). In addition, humans that were originally kidnapped by other aliens have ended up becoming immigrants to the Federation, they're regularly plagued by a galactic empire turned privateer society under Tir the Magnificent, primordial sentient beings known as the Nascent Ones dwell in space and regularly intervene in matters not concerning themselves, and the Scythn have a warrior-messiah, the Alzurol, who has existed for thousands of years and regularly battles with Aedamnomnis, an eldritch monster combining the traits of a hummingbird, a bee, and a mosquito.

I have lots of ideas for animated shows, But due to my lousy drawing skills (and fears of people stealing them) I will probably never show them

Do you get it? I hardly ever come here so I'm like something a cryptozoologist would study

Interesting.

The survey ship is fairly well armed, with a complement of 320 and a platoon of 45 Imperial Marines. Captained by Emily Trọng the ISS Cabot's mission to start with is to explore space for the benefit of the Empire and it's people. There is most certainly no prime directive in their way. Some episodes will cover Thunderbird like rescues, others of political intrigue either on the small scale or between the Empire's rival powers and Allies, sometimes the story is military with her assisting minor campaigns, helping unite worlds under pro-Imperial governments, hunting pirates.

On Earth, Emperor Jack Muhammad tries to set up a system that will continue working after he can no longer frighten politicians into lie, as well as deal with international diplomacy and political intrigue.

Jason Trọng is the captain of a cruiser and has to deal with most of his superiors being rather less pleased with their new regime than he is.

The story would start with exploration, but more and more the Cabot would run into a hostile alien nations, which would eventually go to war with the Empire. Part of the navy would stage a coup and things would gradually worsen.

I also got 2 ideas concerning a post-apocalyptic world. One's where the world's humans are gone, and all that are left are the uplifted chimps, birds, and octopi they left behind. A monkey ends up trekking with a crow, and it's history from there on in. Oh, and there's a badass chimp mercenary.
The second deals with a kid who's really the AI of a roving super-weapon (so far, all I can think of is a 1-treaded tank with lasers) satiated with a virtual reality. He wakes up into a world where humanity's in shambles and all technology is split between an upper and lower class. He's been woken up thanks to a lower class, who hopes to bring him to the largest Lower-Class area on Earth to aid in an upcoming war. There are also Sandworm-drills, a robot city, supersuits controlled by robots, an entire uplifted animal kingdom, and genetically-engineered monsters living in the wild.

I recomend that you look up a book called Incareron, as it has a variation on the things you just described.

I think that when i become some famous writer (most likely not) ill have a book on unfinished stories, that are only a couple chapters long but a thick novel filled with them.

Why Can't I Hold All These Mongols?

hmmm well i've got an idea for a Sci-fi story which is from the point of view of an Alien refugee and a sentient robot, both of them end up formulating a rebelion against the Xenoist (like racist, but against aliens) and oppresive human regime of the colony they are on (its on a moon around a gas giant), and the sentient robots all consider themselves slaves. They eventually establish a colony free of human oppression and prejudice
I've got an idea for a story set in a world where the Aztecs defeated the conquistadors, reverse engineered all the technology such as gunpowder and metal-working, as well as eventually creating an armada of their own, this allowed the Aztecs to conquer the Americas and so they became a major superpower, over the years they ended up with 'colonies' in Europe ,the Pacific and Africa. And then in a century or so from today they started to colonise space and eventually end up in control of an interstellar empire that has oppressed numerous alien species
I also have another fantasy universe im working on

In terms of weapons, most of what is in my series is pretty familar, missiles are used for very long range engagements, with railguns or lasers for closer battles. Ships have very good point-defence meaning fighters just would not work. Generally the focus of the on-screen battles would be inward, as the range means there would not be any of the traditional SF pew pew battles, they would probably resemble submarine engagements.
