| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Alroght, my first post on this site. Ok, I'm an author. And lately I've been running low on ideas for my stories. So a few weeks ago it hit me! A land, where a young sorcerer discovers his talent as one of the last of an order of mages of nature. Scorned by all except his teachers and pet false-canine, he finds that he must find the help of friends to unite the lush, yet war-torn world. Yet age old grudges, and ancient curses which grip the land stand in their way, and from invincible beasts, to an undead cycloptic witch, he will find many more challenges then he ever accepted! Ok, so my problem is with the biology. I've mapped out several specie families that are carved in stone. Firstly, in my world, tectonics are different, and the world has about eight tenths more mass and nine fourths more width. The two continents run parallel to eachother, and the coasts are lush and swamplike. Volcanoes polk-a-dot the jungles and warm pine forests, and snow capped mountains rise even higher then Mt. Everest. The Permian extinction never occured, and synapsids diversified into many forms. Most Dimetrodontids have lost the skin webbings along their sails, and they formed into sharp bony projections.. Many Gorgonopsids evolved into false cats like Earth's Lions or Tigers. Some also formed groups like False Dinosaurs. Temnospondyls formed the whale-like predators of the sea, and also crocodiles. Mammals have evolved to decent sizes in some regions, while being small scavengers rarely reaching over the size of a sheep. 'Birds', are actually a specialized group of gliding reptiles. Many carnivores have hawk like beaks and long sharp talons. Their plumage is like that of Earths birds, only it is composed of completely different substances. Sea going birds have long, wide broad bills, and use them to scoop up plant debris floating in the surf. Sharks have evolved to be massive killing machines, but some are complex with specific diets and mating rituals. So thats my idea. If anyone could make a map of my worlds continent and post it here, I may approve it and make it official. Same goes for the animals. You have an idea? I want to see it! |

That's what they are today... This would be a super-earth, just the fact that the gravity is now 1.8 Earth gravity would radically affect life, for example if land arthropods even evolved they wouldn't of grown as big as they did in the real Carboniferous, giving synapsids and reptiles an earlier chance of land domination. That is, if they evolved. Also, the 1.4 Earth size earth would give more deserts due to the fact that there would be more land, and less wind reaching the center of the continents. |

I decided to put a transcribement of the last major event of the first book of the series, called Silent Horror. This depicts the first battle of the Darkness Campaign. Also I've revised the planet a little. The two continents are at the southern tips of the east and west coast, while a desert/savanaah rises from the center in bewtween all four major oceans. The Synapsids diversified earlier in history then on our Earth, and their wwas no Permian mass extinction. Pterosaurs survive on the continents, sometimes snapping up birds while mainly scourging the lands for carrion or fish. Chapter 32 I didn't know how my men felt, standing in neat rows behind me, waiting for my orders. I had Chase arrange them for me, seperating out divisions and tactical areas. The Goblins, armed with muskets and turrets, had been placed at ridges, bunkers, and the capital's walls. The Mini Cyclopses, Orks, and Humans where at the front lines, adorned with varying types of weapons. And at the very back, where the warlocks and witches, under my full command. They itched with anticipation, which hung in the air like a thick soup. The carrionhawks stood perched on the wall towers, not helping with my, or any other persons morale. The torches of purple fire glowed in the distance, and the calls of Darkness where easily breaking the distance. Some of the soldiers tensed, the one closest to me even broke out in a cold sweat. I told him to keep his spirits up, then began to examine the enemies lines. I could see in the back, towering above the tropical trees where the Titans, brandish scythes and maces, bellowed into the afternoon sky. Below, the multi-race corrupted soldiers writhing in their dark energies, swung enchanted swords, axes, and crossbows. And the first division of them had just parted the tree line. I jestured to the frontline troops towheel up the first 7 turrets, which they cautiously did. This is where Ellen would come in. As the first of the Darkness came in, led by a Overlord and Queen, came into range, I gestured to Ellen at the tower. She nodded, and began weaving her arms. BOOM, BOOM! The frontline turrets began to fire... |
