Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

okay well i have been working on this project for a long time....

were to start... well the world is very different with its geography i' am half done the map and part two

well the world is ruled by intelligent bees. they are huge. also humans never evolved leaving other creatures to not be disturbed by humans.

heres the Hiarchy

high Queen
(ruler of the grand hive*)

High Drone
(one is selected from each hive)

High worker

Queen

worker

drone

*the grand hive is like a main city were drones are sent from other hives to mate with the high queen.

FAQ's for this project:

Q. are any other bee-like creatures big?
A. yes but not massive like the honey bee

Q.how did the bees evolve to be that big?
A. well bees evolved alongside flowers so... it would probably have to do with that

Q. isn't there a maximum size for a flying insect with an exoskeleton? and isn't it way smaller than what you are talking about?
A. there is.... but not for this world

i am probably missing something...

so. any one got thoughts?

You still don't explain how the bees get so big. Nice map though.

How can the exoskeleton suddenly not have limits? You have to take in molting, the fact that it doesn't provide the same amount of support as an endoskeleton, etc...

Also, how did they grow big because of flowers? Are they bigger than the maximum allowed size because of the atmosphere? I'm pretty sure they are.

Could you have the world split up into different sentient hive races e.g. Termites, ants and wasps also dominating regions? And they could domesticate giant beetles and be hunted by huge spiders....

Perhaps it would be better to set this in a future "age of insects," with all vertebrates extinct, than in an alternate version of the present.

In the end, the best advice I could give you would be to do your project in a way that feels natural to you, rather than trying to imitate some geek with a laptop in Colorado.
