Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

I wasn't the one saying we should respect cultures to the point of supporting injustices.

No im looking at it from a learning point of view. I wish to know why people say these things and understand the problem. Not immediately accept it because they are different just listen.

Listen then explain your point of view.
And if they agree, start bashing the oppoisition.
Oh wait, that isn't to be encouraged.

Hey, have you heard of the Black Prince out there? (Dial will have) He was very cool.

So was William Marshal. Although not so altruistic.

I actually take back approximately a third of how I said the americans were just fighting to evade taxes. I say this because the northern colonies, new england, actually went to america on their own in hopes of making their own country with freedom of religion. The king then tried to control them too, and they wanted to be free, bla bla bla, so the new englanders actually did fight for that mystical american freedom, its just the south who were lazy tax evaders. However, judging by the fact that no one has pointed out my incorrection, I'm assuming no one here lives in new england. My brother goes to (gloating powers activate) Yale, and he keeps telling me how even now the new englanders feel they are almost a seperate country, and how they have a stronger sense of that freedom thing. He's actually quite annoying about it, always trying to spread this hippie liberal crap around.

For some reason, I expected to have more members of this site be liberal than not.

No it was Tax evasion, and because Americans were pissed at new British laws protecting the people of freshly conquered New France and the Native Americans. (The Quebec Act and the Royal Proclamation of 1763 respectively.) Oh and something about them not having elected representation or something.

It was not so much about the taxes, but about having to pay taxes while not being represented in the British Parliament.

It was a lot of things, taxes, lack of representation, the desire to ethnic cleanse the land, wanting to take the Ohio valley, a chance to control and lead their own country...

Anyway lets clear the slate and discuss what's really interesting. Asia, 1600 to present.

You're just saying that as insurance for when they supersede us.

Anyway, why not ancient China and Japan?

Ancient is not as interesting to me. The rise of the Qing, and their fall. The Unification of Japan and the Meiji Restoration. Britian and Russian's battle for supremacy in central Asia, Siam playing the British off the French to remain independent, James Brooke carving out his own kingdom in Borneo, Hong Xiuquan's Taiping Heavenly Kingdom.
All tbe Great Powers of the world uniting to protect foreigners and Chinese Christians in the Boxer Rebellion, the Warlord Era in the early Republic of China. I find it a most interesting time. A clash of old and new, European and Asian. A most interesting time.
