Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Okay. While I'm working on Alterniverse, I thought I'd bring this up.
Basically it's a world for a fantasy short novel I hope I'll get finished soon. Not magic and all that, but realistic fantasy. But still remember that this is fantasy, mind you
It's named Kauthron. It's a totally new world but very Earth-like with very Earth-like fauna...... so although it's not Earth I'm still posting it in Alternative Evolution.
It's a land where kingdoms clash, strange animals walk the lands, and where dinosauroids and humans co-exist. So whaddaya think?

Thanks!! here are champsosaurs, the apex predators of the rivers. what do you want next?

Silgrilonian champsosaur

In Silgrilonia, due to low temperatures, crocodiles and their relatives never got hold of the semi-aquatic predator niches (although there are some mekosuchines found in the Southern island chain). Instead, the south of the continent is dominated by champsosaurs. Like all champsosaurs, the Silgrilonian champsosaur has a narrow snout, no crocodilian armored plates but a scaly pelt. Their sizes are comparable to large Earth crocodiles, growing up to 5~6 meters. These beasts are mostly colored in dull olive green, with yellow or black patches here and there. They inhabit lakes and rivers all over the continent, and are most common in the Two Rivers and the wetlands surrounding it. Silgrilonian champsosaurs are also the species with the widest range, occuring far up North, mostly living in the hot springs formed by volcanic activities. Their staple diet is large fish, but they will also feed on crustaceans, turtles, aquatic birds and mammals, carrion and sometimes they will snatch terrestrial animals weighing 1~30 killograms. In mating season, males become extremely territorial and produce deep roaring sounds by sucking in air. Females spread hormones around which attracts males. After mating, females come ahsore in large numbers and lays eggs, burrowing them in on river banks during the dry seasons. In traditional Silgrilonian folklore, humans have often worshipped these beasts as river gods or spirits.

Gamiiwarakarulli

The other species of champsosaur found in mainland Silgrilonia, it is one of the largest terrestrial predators in the entire world. This massive aquatic beast spends most of its life in coastal seas, and are often found in the mangroves and the eustraries at the base of the Two Rivers. They are apex predators in their habitats, feeding mainly on large fish the size of tunas, sea turtles, aquatic birds and mammals, crustaceans and molluscs. They are large, powerful animals with size and strength comparable to Earth sea crocodiles, with males reaching 7 meters and weighing up to 1000 killograms (unconfirmed reports tell of old males measuring 9 meters and weighing as much as 3 tons). However, when these animals occasionally venture too far into freshwater, they are often fought off by Silgrilonian champsosaurs and in deeper waters they sometimes fall prey to larger sea predators such as the Leviathan. They mate in shallow waters, coming ashore to lay and bury their eggs in sand, much like sea turtles.

A brief summary of animals in Silgrilonia: most of the larger animals are mammals, but small ornithischians and therapods are still present; with a lot of diverse birds, including enantiornithes as well as neornithes. Reptiles are also existant, mostly turtles, sphenodonts and choristoderes, with some mekosuchines.
