| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! ok, i'm new here so don't kill me here. anyways, me and my friend have had this idea of predicting what earth would be in 100 million years time. 1. part of euraisa and north america would be connected, while the other half of euraisa would be seperated by a shallow sea. south america would one again be an island, and africa has been split into 2 parts. australia and antartica would once again be connected. 2. on the southern continent, keas, being intellegent and curious, rose to the nitche of top predator when their main compeditors, the mammals, have died out, and the apperance of gargantuan herbivores that provided a food source. (this is my first time.) in the pelagic regions of the oceans, fish are stalked by swift, ocean going salamanders. these predators take the nitche of the marlinsof the present day. ok, that's all for me today. if anyone wants to help me with this, just reply. |

Projects and concepts that I have stewing around Extended Pleistocene- An alternate future where man died out, and the megafauna would continue to thrive (may or may not include a bit about certain future sapients) Inverted World- An alternate timeline where an asteroid hit during the Barremian, causing an extinction event before the Maastrichtian. Dinosaurs, pterosaurs, and notosuchians make it to the present, along with a host of other animals. Badania- Alien planet that has life at a devonian stage of development, except it exists in the present day. Ido- Alien world where hoppers (derived flightless ballonts) and mouthpart-legged beasts are prevalent. Leto- Life on a moon orbiting a gas giant with an erratic orbit; experiences extremes of hot and cold. The Park- ??? Deeper Impact- a world where the K-Pg extinction wipes out crocodilians, mammals, and birds; squamates, choristoderes, and turtles inherit the earth. World of Equal Opportunity- alternate history where denisovans come across Beringia and interact with native fauna. Much of the Pleistocene fauna survives, and the modern humans that end up crossing into North America do not overhunt the existing animals. 10,000 years later, civilizations exist that are on par with European and Asian societies. So wait... 2.2 lbs in a kg... 90-130 kg for females and 160-200 kg for males. Isn't that fairly massive, too big for flying? |

the harrotavis, aptly nicknamed "hookbeaks. they are huge decendents of the kea. when the opprotunity arised, the keas took their sheep killing habits to an extreme and then perfected it and now kills large prey. maybe i should make the sheep medium sized browsers. and, the keas are superbly powerful, having a wing structure similar to a cross between an argentavis's wings and a harpy eagle's. also, the feet are now adapted for walking and grasping and are superbly powerful, enabling it to jump off of the ground and take off with ease. the tutara, however, is an oppertunist, kinda like the gondwanian equivilent of a raccoon. the land crocs, are a very diverse group. having been decended from the freshies of australia, they now occupuy the outer temperate regions to the tropical coasts. they occup the nitche of small carnivores.

i'll start with south america now. the climate at the heart of the continent is tropical grassland, while at the coasts, there are temprate rainforests. in this land, serimas have evolved into terror birds once more, and there are also another group of predators: the mammals. strangely, the pampas cat has re-evolved into a fierce predator, and pecaries have once more evolved into entelodonts. these predators occupuy different niches. the terror serima hunts fast moving prey, like the dangerous kicking fury, a fast moving, kicking decendent of the rhea, and running taipers. the pampas tiger feeds on taipers, and horses. the entelodont is a scavanger, but it sometimes hunts running taipers. hope you liked it! i'll update as soon as i can! a meteor shower on the moon blows a small piece of it off. oh, and can anyone drew the animals for me? i suck i mean SUCK at drawing. i'll post the descriptions. Unfortunately, any collision big enough to knock a significant amount of material off would destroy all life on earth. I refer you to T. Neo. |

ok. earth doesn't loose gravity. but the levels of oxygen are jurassic, enabling titanic herbivores to evolve, without giant insects. (which i despise of, though i'm not afraid of em.) there's also a lot of wind. Edited by Adman, Sep 5 2010, 09:55 AM.

Fine then. Although the increased metabolism will mean that powered lift-offs will be hard and their wings will break if they're beaten by turbulence or overuse. They'll have to jump of cliffs then glide. Damn, i sound mean. |

oh, i see now. you're not mean. i gladly accept your criticisem. ok. the hookbeaks have medium sized legs with claws on their wings and their feet are adapted to run and hold onto prey. and, they're flightless. ok. i see now that keas would have an attack stratigey similar to when lions tackle large prey, like buffalo, elephant, and hippo. one of the hookbeak's hunting stradegies is to leap onto their prey and make deep gouges in the flesh with their claws and ripping apart their prey with their beak, while mimicing the cries of their prey to confuse it. so, how's that.
