Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Why Can't I Hold All These Mongols?

Im not sure about most other schools but at my school the Electives for Yr/grade 9 our
-IST (intelligent software technology) -IT (industrial tech, basiclly woodcraft, etc)
-DT (design technology, architecture, etc) -Commerce (finance & law)
- Art(painting,etc) - Music(Instruments,etc)
-Drama(acting,etc) -French
-Italien

I chose Drama and Commerce, i am of course in the second semester of Yr 9 so i've been doing both subjects for a while now. however heaps of people give drama as a subject heaps of bullsh*t, saying stuff like its not academic and no ones going to use it, WTF?!? If your going to say no one uses it then your a dipsh*t, ever heard of Acting? Stand up comedy? Any job that requires public speaking? How about self confidence? you learn the skills needed for that in Drama. Not to mention half those people are hypocrites, what Drama's not academic but Art and Music are?!? How stupid are you people!!!! I mean like 25 people do the F*cking subject give it a break!

Drama is a GCSE option over here. Indeed, one of my friends took it. I agree with you, it can teach important communication skills, and besides, half of the reason for picking a subject should be that you enjoy it.

Slightly better than Dance, otherwise one of the worst subjects. Not bad like French or Maths, with was dull and difficult but served a purpose.

I can't believe I had to do Drama and Dance for three damned years. You're damned lucky that you got to choose to do that shit.

Lucky you. Three accused years wasted. One person out of my tutor group chose to continue studying it, out of thirty. I don't think anyone continued with drama.

Well I may have a personal bias against such subjects. Our school kept these art classes going (dance, drama, expressive art) while they cut practical subjects such as product design, graphics communication and even biology!

So, yeah, great if you go to a school that can afford to run all subjects, but they really need to prioritise if they can't run them all. Usefulness > entertainment!

Totally agree with you!

Although they do need an entertaining class every so often to liven up college.

Although I consider biology to be entertaining as well as useful, except for test time and microbiology.

What's wrong with small things? ;)

I find speculating using knowledge available to me, so learning biology is indirectly entertaining.

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea.

Passing the evolution section of my biology class was entertaining for me. Partly because I knew it, and partly because it was fun to see my Biology teacher inject science into their religious beliefs.

Ama's very useful. Especially if you're going to be in a job where you have to deal with difficult people.

Communication skills? I took a speech class when I was in high school, drama sucks.
We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar.

"The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming

My school was mutating into an arts college while I was at it, or trying to.

And drama does not sound like it would be good for communication skills. I mean you're not saying anything, just reading a script. That won't help you when having a real conversation.

Ever heard of improvising. About half of drama is that. A lot of putting yourself in other people's shoes. And hiding/showing emotions. If you've ever sat in at a vets surgery, you'll know how important that is. Some pet owners are arseholes.

Why does it suck,?its easily the funnest f*cking subject i have
Science- I know all of it already, im bored half-to-death
English-My teachers a racist, we're doing work on books i read 3 years ago (Lord of the flies,Frankenstien, etc)
Maths- I finish all our class work in 5 minutes and then draw in my book
Physical Education- Fun at some points, im good at swimming, etc however it isn't intellectually stimulating
Commerce- Interesting, gives us lifeskills, but it's a huge amount of boring work (i can do revenue statements in my sleep now)
Religion- I don't even believe the damn subject
History- yet again i know all of what we're doing
Geography- same as above

Oh and by the way, most people who think its bad either have a bad teacher, or their crap at it
