| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! I do apostrophes and commas all right. But i never use semi-colons. When do they go in? Lists? No. Description beginnings? No. When?!? When?!? |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

Semicolons are tricky. They can be used to conjoin two closely related sentences without a conjunction: "Silverlord isn't breathing; I wonder if he'll survive." They are also useful with transitional phrases: "I like to eat snaiadi; however, it doesn't do me a bit of good." And when a list of phrases requiring internal punctuation are put together, semicolons should separate them: "There are lots of amazing Furahans: the marblebill, with its long, brachiating arms; the tubesharks, which have been a perpetual source of contention among furahan biologists; and the seasoar, a majestic four-winged flyer." |

because some people like to type like they know HTML. even so, i find it makes it harder to read when they're not capitalized. |

We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar. "The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming Tree That Owns Itself

I try to use correct grammar, spelling and punctuation. For me it's a matter of presenting oneself as intelligent and educated (or... at least capable of using English properly ). I type like this when I'm using chatrooms as well... trying to type good English fast is actually great practice, for both my language and typing skills.I don't particularly care about what other people think, though when I see lack of grammar/spelling/punctuation I am a bit more skeptical of that person's intelligence... though I have to admit people on this forum have proved otherwise. bt i dnt liek it when ppl type in chtspk or 1337-speak liek all plz hlp i need hlp and stff its just SO annoy1ng See what I mean?

For example, it states the possessive form of Cortez (or any word ending with 'z' or 's') would be Cortez's, with few exceptions. I always miss out the s if the letter before is 's' or 'z'. |

That's a pretty standard English grammar rule. Do you speak any other languages that causes that confusion? |

Not at all, my knowledge of other languages is rather basic- just enough to have conversations in French, German and Latin. But Cortez's? |

Certainly. I don't recall anything in English grammar that even equivocally equates z with s (Spanish is a different matter). You've piqued my interest about where you've acquired this notion... |

I think in my case the problem is not that I capitalise too few, but too many words. I´m used to German, so I capitalise most nouns - especially when dealing with common names for animals or names of clades. |
