| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! THE UPRISING OF THE FIRST COUNCIL The four dominant species of Earth were gathered at a grove with a rock cliff on one side and trees on the other. There were: Homo Sapiens (us), Homo Fortis, Homo Avians and Homo and Homo Arachnids. Lowr, the Leader of the Sapiens, stood in proud among her kind. She had black hair that outlined her large head (compared to other species). Notlach, the leader of the Fortis's, was hue with large muscular arms and legs. He stood up tall (again compared to other species). Veph, leader of the Avians, flapped her membrane wings, folded them up around her and admired her claws. Snassves, leader of the Arachnids, climbed down from a tree and onto the ground showing off his long arms and legs. His appearance made him look almost spider-like, hence the name: Homo Arachnid. using rocks and different plants, they communicated through drawing. Later they decided that the sapiens would get what is now: Europe, the middle east and some of Russia. The Fortis's would get Africa the Avians would get south America and the Arachnids would get North America. No war was to come as long as one would stay in their territory and is not to wander. Thus the first Council was formed. more info on the species later. any thoughts or concerns? |

Yeah, the avians and the arachnids. A human-sized animal wouldn't develop membranous wings, they will be useless. And I don't see any reason the arachnidae would develop long limbs. |

about the Avians: I disagree with you. But the Avian's are lighter than the average human. and why wouldn't the Arachnids evolve long limbs? |

Why would they? I only see them as a disadvantage. Humans are too big to glide, it won't work. Squirrels and sugar gliders can because they glide. If the atmosphere was thicker it would be possible, but I don't see how the atmosphere could of thickened enough for the membranes to be effective. Also the lightness won't matter, even if they developed hollow bones they wouldn't be able to glide, and hollow bones won't evolve. Hollow bones evolved only in flighted animals. |

Well could there be a possible way for the Avians to fly? |

No. All flyers have started small. Plus, I doubt gliders or flyers would even evolve in a savanna. The "homo avis" is impossible. |

Perhaps just giving them feathers would make them more bird-like, then thinner but stronger legs, like those of an ostrich, but with hominid toes. Although they would have to eat a lot. And the Arachnidmen wouldn't go back to the trees they just got down from, surely? |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |
