| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. wolfes could easily coexist with lions,as they do it in pleistocene and for example lyacon pictus today in africa and yeah, leopard is most possible survivor, they could later evolve into tiger like beasts etc. Edited by Ook, Aug 1 2010, 06:19 PM.

Wolves actually only invaded Europe after the native brown hyenas were gone... |

Yah and with pack hunters like Spotted Heynas around Wolves would be slaughtered.... Spotted Heynas would likely outcompete Wolves and Wolves would be on the Heynas menu.... |

How do we know zoo animals will survive without humans at all? Most of them have never hunted their entire lives. They're like housepets. |

Canine like hyenas disappeared in the Pliocene, but modern hyenas ruled Europe and Africa during the Pleistocene. Gray wolves only arrived to Europe in the late Pleistocene, after the brown hyenas were gone from there |

You guys are forgetting something. For one, zoo's are meant to keep the animals in. During Katrina, the animals at the New Orleans Zoo didnt escape? Why, because they couldnt. If you go to a zoo, enclosures are blocked from escapes. The animals would starve. Sure there may be the odd case where something might get out, but the likely scenario is that zoo animals will starve to death. Dont get me worng, I had a project with an American filled with zoo animals It's fun, but I dont think its likely.

WOlves are the most efficient predatirs out of all the ones you mentioned, the fastest and one of the most intelligent. They have a good foothold and can survive in all of the USA, whereas all the others are confined to the south. A hyena is smaller, slower and has less body strength than a wolf. And wolf packs are one of the most advanced social structures in the world. Also, humans now think that invasive species are evil. They'll cull them. Zoo animals start with small, weak populations which are tame and would find it very hard to acclimatise to the USA. |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

Of course. So they would probably all die. |

Then the very small population will dwindle to nothing. They already have vultures in the carrion niche and wolves in the hunting niche. |
