Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Fire is good against zombies, especially in open areas. Quickly removes the senses.

That minigun/machine gun was terrifying....if slightly cool...
"You shall perish, whatever you do! If you are taken with arms in your hands, death! If you beg for mercy, death! Whichever way you turn, right, left, back, forward, up, down, death! You are not merely outside the law, you are outside humanity. Neither age nor sex shall save you and yours. You shall die, but first you shall taste the agony of your wife, your sister, your sons and daughters, even those in the cradle! Before your eyes the wounded man shall be taken out of the ambulance and hacked with bayonets or knocked down with the butt end of a rifle. He shall be dragged living by his broken leg or bleeding arm and flung like a suffering, groaning bundle of refuse into the gutter. Death! Death! Death!"

You want something reliable, light, easy to use with a decent caliber and with plentiful ammunition where you are going.

So don't use your Arisaka Type 99 rifle, even if it still has the 'mum and original cleaning rod.

Anything 9mm and up is going to be fine really. The human skull is not that thick.

Against birds you use a shotgun and you load it with birdshot. Pretty obvious. I suppose an automatic shotgun might be handy if you are facing an angry flock.

Birdshot... I feel small.
Flamethrowers would also work in a melee with birds.
Full body armour is a must, with no cracks.
I reckon minigun while they approach, birdshot at intermediate, and then flamethrower up close.

As for zombies, what about in urban areas?
SMGs? Carbines?
Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea.

Carbines they are better in nearly all cases in a zombie apocalypse. You get through ammo less quickly. An smg just tears through the stuff.

The ammo problem really is critical.
Perhaps we may have to resort to body protection and melee weapons, if there are seven billion zombies out there. Baseball bat, sword, mallet...

The last swords used as important weapons in warfare were the dao and dadaos used by the NRA and communists (when they weren't running away) in the early years of of the Second Sino-Japanese War. The Chinese had more volunteers than guns, and the ones they did have tended to fall apart or explode after the first shot.

They were big heavy blades, not unlike machetes, might be a handy thing to have.

But they were not uses as extensively as daos and dadaos. The Japanese had better quality rifles and only the officers had swords.
