| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. I think that a zombie apocalypse is actually more than plausible than most people think, seeing as three-billion people are carriers of a brain parasite bphttp://www.corante.com/loom/archives/2006/01/17/the_return_of_the_puppet_masters.php Of course turning that into zombies is stretching the truth by a few kilometres. Not to mention that diseases like mad cow disease and rabies could be engineered for humans... But a worldwide pandemic will never happen. at the most a nation or a group of nations, possibly in the third-world, will have an issue with it. Though in fact some third world nations may be more than equipped to deal with zombies, militias already in place, large amounts of weapons, people already used to living in survivalist conditions, etc. The USA would also have little to worry about, with such a large amount of firearm owners, the place would have more than enough survivors, probably. The real countries that should worry would be Japan, the UK, Australia, basicly western nations with very low gun ownership with a large amount of its population in concentrated areas |

If the undead get Mugabe then the highlands are just begging for settlement. Good farmland that's easily defensible. |

In the UK, we have a defensive moat. Zombies, AFAIK, can't swim. if they arose on the UK, we have good communications and the police could take any snail-pace bags of rotting flesh that might come forth. |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed."

But of course we have raging zombies as well. |
|
"You shall perish, whatever you do! If you are taken with arms in your hands, death! If you beg for mercy, death! Whichever way you turn, right, left, back, forward, up, down, death! You are not merely outside the law, you are outside humanity. Neither age nor sex shall save you and yours. You shall die, but first you shall taste the agony of your wife, your sister, your sons and daughters, even those in the cradle! Before your eyes the wounded man shall be taken out of the ambulance and hacked with bayonets or knocked down with the butt end of a rifle. He shall be dragged living by his broken leg or bleeding arm and flung like a suffering, groaning bundle of refuse into the gutter. Death! Death! Death!"

Not according to real beliefs about zombies. They are just shuffling, dead creatures with no will of their own. |

seascorpion; your worst places are actually average to above average, except Japan, they're doomed. Australia would be one of the best places. And the US wouldn't do as well as people like to think. We will turn our guns on eachother before the living dead get close, not that we could hit the head or even aim at it; gun ownership is disconnected from marksmanship. China would be by far the worst place. |

I don't see why China would fair so badly. I mean if you look at the 20th century history of China from the fall of the Qing (and things were pretty rough then) to the end of the Cultural Revolution was pretty apocalyptic. For twelve years the nation was a chaotic mess ruled by warlords, then just as the country started to sort itself out, the communist party and Japan started fighting the ROC. By the time the ROC was forced into Taiwan at least 22 million people had been killed, not counting Japanese, Soviets or American casualties. I can't find any accurate figures on collaborationist Chinese. Then according to the PRC's own statistics 15 million more died in famine, though it was probably more like 30 million, with some estimates even reaching 45 million. And half a century later people are panicking about them becoming a superpower. The Chinese would be fine. Well not fine, but they'd come back. China's seen the rise and fall of Roman, the Ottoman and British Empires and is still here. It's going to take more than a few apocalypses to finish China off. |
