| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! That won't work. They only use logic. That is hiding! Real men would go out and beat the robots to scrap with girders. |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

Fine, you be a real man and get your self killed and I'll be the guy who repopulates the human race. Deal? |

Okay! Now, to find a sizeable yet controllable girder. |

Well all the robots would be dead anyway a nuclear firestorm would produce an EMP big enough to destroy all technology for good... |

Meanwhile I'm run my feudal kingdom safe below ground, digging bunkers, expanding mineshafts. Assuming a ratio of 10 women to every man I should be able to rebuild the population to stable levels within 20 years. Food would be a problem, but coal could be mined to fuel power stations to light fluorescent lamps. As the years progress we can emerge from below the earth and help give the survivors on the surface a pleasant and simple carefree life, and once they have matured sufficiently could be taken down for a celebratory dinner. |

I somehow managed to survive above ground and was picked up by a passign UFO containing some very human aliens, who in fact turned out to be humans from a parallel universe where robots never won and technology was 1000 years ahead. We then fire xasers at all the robots and save everyone just as the robots were breaching the underground city. |

That's... slightly unlikely. But then me becoming a steam/atomic punk dwarven king is too. |

It is indeed unlikely. But it could happen. |

I've got a good apocalypse scenario; the Earth stops rotating. Not abruptly, obviously, or we'd all be red smears across the globe, but slowly. The atmosphere and seas would slowly settle at the poles, the equator and mountains would have so little air they were uninhabitable. Most of the continents are beneath the new oceans, and the land that has emerged is devoid of life; plant or otherwise. The only hope would be to build an ark and colonize the new land. Lucky for me Kansas would become the shores of a new ocean. It would never ever rain here again, what with no weather on most of the planet's surface, but I could become a fisherman. The ocean populations would boom given the sudden increase in nutrients from the millions of tons of decaying organic material. I would establish a community and try to build desalination plants (simple ones, obviously). |

We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar. "The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming Tree That Owns Itself

Why would the continents be below the ocean, as half of the earth would freeze, surely more land would exposed on the light side?
