| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! You could use feces as currency and dung beetles as tax collectors. Here's another scenario. The dreaded animals rising up and going nuts. Sort of like The Birds except with every single species of animal on the planet except for humans. Staying on an island with a cave won't cut it in this scenario. There are plenty of animals that can reach the island by swimming or flying. I might end up staying in an underground hideout. Edited by Toad of Spades, Jul 31 2010, 03:29 AM.

How about a bunker two hundred metres underground lined with 5m of lead and concrete, with total matter recycling inside and loads of yoltowatt masers sticking out? |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

Seeing as we often become insane, that argument does not hold water. |

Here's another one that hasn't been done in this thread yet. Machines rising up or "The Terminator Scenario". I would do the cave thing again, but I have an easy and simple way to defeat attackers. The easiest and simplest way to defeat them hasn't been tried in the movies, which is weird. The way to beat them is.....water. Just throw buckets of water at them and watch them fizzle like a laptop that gets a glass of water spilt on it. This makes me wonder why nobody in the Terminator movies tried getting them wet. |

Maybe they're shielded. If they can stand bullets, they can probably have insulated wiring. |

Water does not make robots just shut down. It can mess them up, but it's not a magic off switch. And I'd like to see you get close enough to get something with autocannons for its face and hands to get it moist. |

If you attack using a water cannon from above, you'd get water on it. But any robot would have insulated circuitry. |
