| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Thats what happens after the Great Panic where most of the worlds population dies just in the sheer chaos, the governments of the world set up safezones in Britain the main safe zones are Wales and Scotland and most people patch up the castles and live in them. The queen chooses to reamain in Windsor castle and it becomes one of the main survivor camps. In the USA the safe zone is on the West coast behind the rockies in the states of Oregon and Washington. Japan is completely overun and they try and evacuate to Kamchatka India retreats into the Himalayas although it had already lost a massive amount of its population. Cuba becomes one of the economic powers of the world due to its fast isolation and highly militarised economy Israel retreats to its pre 60's borders and constructs a massive wall (They did this before the Great Panic) China just gets screwed Russia keeps changing its safe zone and eventually they have about five one in the Urals another in Crimea and loads of others. There thats what most countries do nw read the book i really recommend it

In Crimea? I suppose Ukraine's glory has perished, as has her freedom. |

If we're trying to kill viruses, total obliteration is best.

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

Well, they do do it themselves, don't they? It's like fighting an army of Snow Goons with snowballs, they can just make more Snow Goons. The sad part is it does sound like China. |

And what of the legitimate Chinese Government? Do they wait in the wings until China's so messed up they can just walk in and use the Three Principles of the People to unite China? Atomic weapons would pretty much clear out a city, and deter looters for coming in and getting reinfected. But it would be such a moral blow and cause such environmental damage it would not be worth it. |

I remember Iceland becomes a wasteland holding a dense population of zombies. Mexico, my country, is so wrecked by the zombies that they need help from the U.S. army to recover the country, which after that, is renamed Aztlan. North Korea's entire population somehow disappears. There are sh*tloads of zombies walking through the ocean floor. Circa 25 million zombies walking underwater, according to the book. Iran and Pakistan fire nuclear missiles to eachother. And a new 'nation' formed from all those people living in the ocean on boats, ships and submarines. What sucks is the fact that earth is heavily polluted, baleen whales have been hunted to extinction, some parts of the Middle East are rendered radioactive, turtles and other 'slow' land animals are extinct and most fossil fuels and oil are rather scarce. I wonder, how would life evolve in an Earth post WWZ? Survivors tell stories of gigantic felines, descendants of feral cats, somehow evolved quick during the war and the subsequent years. |

So the zombies manage to conveniently ignore the fact that anaerobic respiration, i.e respiration not involving oxygen produces lactic acid. Which, at low levels gives you a stitch. At high levels, it can be pretty damn poisonous. |

Actually, it's a side effect of that. You get exhausted, you can't breathe fast enough to get the right amounts of oxygen into your body. Thus you get an oxygen debt. Muscles that are not supplied with oxygen respire anearobically, producing Lactic acid. This gets into your blood and causes a stitch. Normally you stop soon enough after developing one, so you get enough oxygen into you to sate the oxygen need, and your kidneys quickly filter out the lactic waste. But. If a Solanum zombie respires anaerobically, it will quickly build up a lot of lactic acid. Which has nowhere to go, no kidneys to be filtered from. So this sits in the brain, building up, being acidic. And, like other anaerobic respiration waste products, it's eventually going to kill the brain cells. |

However, a Solanum infectee's brain is already altered in so many ways, why not in a way to endure the acids? |

Because this God Mode Sue of a virus really needs any more bonuses. So it's not only capable of surviving acids, but it's more toxic and more durable than anthrax, and can make it's host body able to survive high pressures, ignore currents and even be resistant to salt corrosion. Honestly. |

In the short term, contact http://www.emergencytea.co.uk/Welcome.html to secure the supply for the immediate future. Long term I'd raise and army to conquer Turkey, East Africa, India or China. Depending on which is easiest. |
