| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. Sera would be fine so long as you stick with delta. |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Gas is a ineffective weapon in general and a wholly unpleasant one when it does. Ground forces hate using it. A better idea would be to use Saturation bombing on major cities, assuming you don't need them and all the civilians are dead. Then using ground forces supported by combined Counter-Insurgency aircraft and attack helicopters and carry out "bite and hold" battles. Fence off and area, clear it, fence of another area, clear it, and so on. When you have a city that you want to take intact-ish I suggest a modified version of what Julius Caesar did at the Battle of Alesia and use circumvallation. Fence off a city, or surround it by trenches and let the infected come to you, occasionally launching raids to draw them out. Edited by lamna, Jul 26 2010, 01:18 PM.

That is what they do in WWZ although remember for combat in urban battlefields the nightmare is that you need to send infantry into every cellar, open up every cabinet and check subways and sewers for the odd zombie.... |

Hence strategic bombing. If nobody lives there, you don't need the city. |

No because alot of a city is underground and thus you need people to clean up after a strategic bombing.... |

Or you need more, bigger bombs, or fire bombs. Or both. |

Gas would work well on zombies. Without pain reactions to warn them to hide and an inability to use gas masks, chlorine-screening them would kill most off. |

Assuming these zombies breathe. Yes, I'm designing a zombie that doesn't breathe. No you don't get to see it for now. Probably not ever. |

Maybe they could burn the zombies with a squadron armed with flamethrowers and crowds of civilians armed with cheap makeshift flamethrowers made from super-soakers to crowd them to a certain area that would give humans a tactical advantage. Then the cornered zombies could be carpet bombed with napalm. Then the remaining zombies could be gunned down and burned.

Fire weapons work against zombies in open air. Inside, they tend to set fire to a lot of things. And yes, most gas weapons wouldn't work against non-breathing zombies. Mustard Gas however... |

Crocodiles have a hard enough time moving quickly on land as it is, let alone covered in debris. I hardly call that human intelligence. |

We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar. "The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming Tree That Owns Itself

I don't like the idea of bombing cities. I fear it would not reduce the potential of infection sufficiently. Incendiary weapons would be better IMO. Chemical warfare could be very effective IMO, especially if it used some means of luring the infected to the poison. |
| A hard mathematical figure provides a sort of enlightenment to one's understanding of an idea that is never matched by mere guesswork. | |

If its the slow rotting corpse type zombies, maybe scientists could test and see if feeding them to rats causes them to become infected. If not, then they could release hundreds of thousands of rats into a overrun area. The rats are too small for the uncoordinated zombies to remove from their bodies. The rats reproduce and feed off the zombies until only the rats remain. Then the rats are caught and given baths so personel don't get sick from them, then the rats are moved to another city. Another idea is to release wild boar and domestic pigs to eat the zombies. |

Chemical weapons would not be effective. They can be useful for flushing out enemies, but they are more a psychological weapon. A slight wind can turn your deadly weapon into nothing more than a coughing fit. |
