Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

At first I feared the worst, but, HOLY FREAKING CRAP!!!!

Just.... wow.... just..... wow.

I think you can tell by now, I liked it. No, scratch that, I LOVED it. It wandered a bit from the series in a few respects, most of which I will let remain a surprise for those who haven't seen it yet. That said, wow.

But, forwarned, names have been changed to protect the innocent. Most names are now pronounced differently. Sokka, Aang, and Iroh (and Magni Kai) are all pronounced different. So if that stuff bugs you like me, don't worry, you get over it.

Same goes for some things about Air Nomad culture, but you'll get over it.

They aged Zuka and Azula (no spoiler, Azula's in it, just like in the show) to roughly sixteen, Azula could be older. The actors though are much older, so I don't think it's weird for me to be incredibly attracted to Azula. You know, like always (only animated character that, after I grew up, had any feelings for).

Aang and Sokka were done PERFECTLY. Which is great, because Sokka is my favorite character. Seriously, they couldn't have found better actors for either, especially Sokka. He sounded right. He looked right. He was just RIGHT. Period.

However, don't get your hopes up in the beginning, the first ten or fifteen minutes suck, but once it gets going, it gets going. Also, I'm biased, because I went in with very low expectations, so now that I've said this I doubt you'll be as amazed. I was honestly terrified they would ruin it. Nope. Perfecto.

Now I am excited to see the second if they make it, and they better, or I'll hunt someone down. May not have anything to do with anything, but I will find someone to take it out on. I want another one. I want to see Toph.

Though Katara was total fail for the most part. Sorry, she just... let me down a bit. *shrugs*

I want to watch it again now... I never say that. Yeah, I just watched it a few minutes and I am still excited about.

Oh, and if we talk about the events in the movie that differ from the series in anyway, spoilers. If not, then it's stuff we already know, like the fish and the moon and everything.

Avatar: The last Airbender, The Legend of "Ong". Didn't watch it, don't plan to. From the reviews it sounds too far off.

This and Aeon Flux are perfect examples why animation is far superior to live action and why you shouldn't make a live action movie out of an animated series.

Dinosaurs eat man, woman inherits the Earth.

Yeah, my friends who were HUGE fans of the series absolutely hated it. I don't make any immediate plans to.

However, I cannot wait until "Inception" comes out. Thatooks BEAST!

The highest review of the film I've read gave it a 2.8/10.

I don't plan on seeing it solely because it needs Asian actors.
I wish I could give the public a true picture of the queen as she appeared at her best, but this would be impossible, even had she permitted a photograph to be taken, for her charming play of expression while in conversation, the character and intellect which were then revealed, were only half seen when the face was in repose. -Lilias Underwood when speaking of Empress Myeongseong

"I was born in the dark. I went out into the light, and your Majesty, it is my displeasure to inform you that I have returned to the dark. I envision a Seoul of towering buildings filled with Western establishments that will place herself back above the Japanese barbarians. Great things lie ahead for the Kingdom, great things. We must take action, your Majesty, without hesitation, to further modernize this still ancient kingdom."-Min Young-ik to Empress Myeongseong

I'm going back to basics.

Is this bad enough to justify seeing it?

I watched it. Sokka didn't lust for delicious, juicy meat. Or be goofy.

He was goofy in a few scenes, but it was mostly put into the background, which did annoy me. But considering this is the first film of the trilogy, and this genre for M Night (and all the deleted scenes, or were they just not filmed?) I imagine it will be very different when, or if, they make the next ones.

Though the meat was sadly missing.

I thought they were just adding two new seasons to the old series? Oh well, either way doesn't matter.

I like Toph too. And of course Azula (Fanboy squeel) And Momo. Okay, virtually all he characters, but mostly Sokka.

Let's hope it has the Air Nation return (last night I started thinking about how they cold return, as the bad guys)

So was it a good adaptation or not?

Also is Avatar worth watching? I don't like starting to watch a series that's not worth it, but at the same time I want to know as little about it as possible.
It's a fantasy about some kind of war between unimaginatively named nations right?

L'évolution Spéculative est moi

That movie was so terrible I didn't get through half an hour of it before I left the theater. It was just such an insult to the actual series, which was so good. And what was with the mispronunciation of all their names? Soakah? Ong? Did they even bother to watch the show before making a movie out of it?
We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar.

"The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming
