Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

The Future is Barbaric

15 million years from now, this world looks very different. The resulting Global Warming of Yester Year, has put the Planet on a collision course against itself, in an attempt to reset. As the world heated in the Human Era, attempts at cleaner fuel choices failed, and ultimately the world grew warm, and dry. The Oceans heated, and frozen Methane erupted to the surface resulting a small Ice Age. The result of the madness? The HC-Extinction. Humans died out, as they fought each other for water and various other items. The Final Humans hung to rivers, and eventually died out. The mini Ice Age, would soon send the world into a new era of life, one that is man free. A stronger, and greater Ice Age ripped the planet, but things are set to warm as the final throughs of the Ice Age begin to leave, and a hotter era will soon start, that in turn bringing its own extinctions along.

--

Hi, some of you may remember my last two project, which evidently died out as life got in the way of both. However, I have free time now, for a while, and plan on making a return. This new project; The Future is Barbaric, follows life on Earth 15, 95, and 195 million years into a future after the brought on death of Humanity. This Earth at the starting year, 15 myh, is at the end of a Ice Age, the world is slowly heating, but for now it is relatively cold. Reptiles have taken a massive hit in the Ice Age, and Amphibians hold on to the brink. If there was something on the endangered list during the humans time, then it is extinct. Some large mammals died out during the Human Era, other during the Ice Age. This however, left niches open. And this world is still a world dominated by Mammals.

EDIT:

The World 15 Million Years Hence

The Propaki's
Antilocapora Clarkelis

The Propaki's are members of the Antilocapora genus, of the Antilocapridae Family, which includes the Antilocapra(Pronghorns). The Propaki's descendants where Pronghorns who adapted to taking a niche similiar to Giraffe and Okapi niches. The common Propaki, Clarke's Propaki, has the largest range. All other specie, including the Desert Propaki, are considered subspecie. They have similiar size's to modern day Okapi's. They have the coloration of thier ancestors. They forage on trees, and grasses.

(Told you I owed you Clarke :P)

The savannahs of North America have redefined American life. Grasses, descended from the common grasses of the Human era, as well as some corn and other plants that survived, make up this savanah.

Grasses now grow quite high if left untouched by the herds of Pompous Bun dont chew them up. The Pompous Bun are are round and fat, and move quite clowly. They grow to about 6 feet tall, and have large amounts of fur covering thier bodies. Originally Pompous Bun's evolved from Rabbits which humans began mass growing towards the end of thier existence. These rabbits, durring the Ice Age, found a way to survive by growing larger, downsizing thier ears, and growing thick fur. A few specie lived during the Ice Age, but now that the Ice Age is over, and the cold withdrawing, only one specie survives. It lives its days eating and con stantly on the move. Herds reach sizes of up to 30 individuals, and they eat everything in an area. However these creatures are doomed to dissapear as it gets warmer, unless they find a new wqay to adapt to life.

The Long-Korn's are thin plants descended from Corn plants. They grow long, and cover areas of the Savanah randomly. They disperse spores into the air. They grow fruits that are eaaten by some herbivores, mostly eaten by the Prokapi's. The Prokapi's, descended from Pronghorns, grow long necks, and sport antlers that never shed. They do not share the colorationg of the Okapi, however the arse area is striped like the Okapi's due to convergent evolution(debatable) The Prokapi share coloration with thier ancestors, and hold much the same facial features.

Besides that the Pronghorn has taken a liking to the Savanah like enviroments of North America. The Prontelope has taken an Antelope niche, and the Great Pronghorn has evoled into a much larger version of itself. They roam the savanh grazing, and avoiding predators.

One such predator is the Cheelot, a lean, mean, speed machine. Evolving from the Ocelot, the Cheelot has taken to hunting Prontelopes. Built for speed, the Cheelot resembles its extinct relative, the Cheetah, and like the Cheetah the Cheelot has to take intervals of rest as its not made for much endurance. However, for the Cheelot, these rests are shorter, and happen less frequently as the Cheelot is built alongside endurance, sacrifycing some speed.

Along with the Cheelot, the savanah has other terrifying beats. The Grand Badger, a huge Badger that resembles a large bear mixed with the Badger, is an apex predator though they stay to the northern and eastern forests more. However, the ultimate predator of the Savanah has no mercy on its life.

The Pumanthion is the largest feline to ever live to this date. Evolving from the Puma, it has become the Apex Predator. Along with its large size, it has taken to packs, ussually consisting of a male, and two or three female, and the cubs. The Pumanthions will go out and attack thier prey as the group, and then eat the body in an order where the male eats first, then the female, and then the cubs. Once cubs reach a certain age they are kicked out of the pack.

Scavenging on the dead carcasses left behind by Pumanthions, Grand Badgers, and Cheelot's, are the Emperor Vultures and the Doyeta's. The Emperor Vultures are one of the largest Vulture specie to date. Feeding on dead carcases, and then resting on tree's. The Doyeta, much like the Hyena, scavenges of carcases, and sometimes even attempts to take prey from other animals. The Doyeta however is not a full scavenger as it is known to hunt small creatures, like Prongtelope, or the like.

(A little view of the Savanah world of North America. I suddenly came up with the idea of the Pompous Bun, and I like it :p)

Something I forgot to mention in the world Overview, and thus is not shown on the map, is that much of California has broken off. The split has caused it to move southwest. It lies close to the tropics, and holds swamps. I will post something on it soon?

California is moving North though, not south. In 50-100 (not sure when) California will get subducted at the north of the Pacific Plate near Alaska.

Yea I figured that, but then I thought maybe the break causes it to move south instead? I dont know. HAve continents always moved in the same direction? Has North America always been moving Northwest?

California must move North because it's in the Pacific plate, which is moving north. Absolutely no way for it to go south unless the Pacific plate was to mysteriously start moving south.
