| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! 15 million years from now, this world looks very different. The resulting Global Warming of Yester Year, has put the Planet on a collision course against itself, in an attempt to reset. As the world heated in the Human Era, attempts at cleaner fuel choices failed, and ultimately the world grew warm, and dry. The Oceans heated, and frozen Methane erupted to the surface resulting a small Ice Age. The result of the madness? The HC-Extinction. Humans died out, as they fought each other for water and various other items. The Final Humans hung to rivers, and eventually died out. The mini Ice Age, would soon send the world into a new era of life, one that is man free. A stronger, and greater Ice Age ripped the planet, but things are set to warm as the final throughs of the Ice Age begin to leave, and a hotter era will soon start, that in turn bringing its own extinctions along. -- Hi, some of you may remember my last two project, which evidently died out as life got in the way of both. However, I have free time now, for a while, and plan on making a return. This new project; The Future is Barbaric, follows life on Earth 15, 95, and 195 million years into a future after the brought on death of Humanity. This Earth at the starting year, 15 myh, is at the end of a Ice Age, the world is slowly heating, but for now it is relatively cold. Reptiles have taken a massive hit in the Ice Age, and Amphibians hold on to the brink. If there was something on the endangered list during the humans time, then it is extinct. Some large mammals died out during the Human Era, other during the Ice Age. This however, left niches open. And this world is still a world dominated by Mammals. EDIT: The World 15 Million Years Hence ![]() (Credit to Clarke for the map!) Edited by OmegaBeaver, Jul 27 2010, 03:44 PM.

Canis Crocutas The Doyena Feral Dogs where known to not form much packs, seeing other dogs as competition. However, with a rise in feral dogs during the human decline, some took to packs as a way to assure they can get food without other feral dogs stealing the food. This, after millions of years, led to better pack societies. After 15 million years, the Canis Lupus Familiaris, has evolved in the Creeping Grasslands into a new type of Canid, so different now that it has lost its ties with the Wolf and become its own specie. The Doyena have taken a role similiar to that of the African hyenas of the present day. However, their packs are smaller, of up to 15 members. They scavenge food, however they have been known to hunt at times of need. The skulls have gained hyena like molars to crush bone as well. What do you think? Also I was thinking of having Proghorn's take the Antelope niche? As you can see the North American grasslands are starting to become much like the African grasslands of the present day. |

Hawaii The Hawaiin habitats varied from island to island in the Human time, but as the Ice Age came, they connected, and now form the Island of Hawaii, one large island. Its savanahs, covered with some trees, are lush in life, however not as lush as when rainforests ruled the area. A call is herd in the distance. A group of large creatures are making the ruckus. Thier snorts are loud and obnoxious, however predators dont scare them. The eat away at the expanse of grass, and continue on thier way. Reaching 9 ft tall, the Hippo Hog is truly a huge beast. Evolving from the wild pigs of Hawaii, they have taken to eating, and then finding a watering area where they jump right in. They behave much like thier name-sake, the hippo. There skin is very tough, and predator find it hard to penetrate. Nearby a group of completly different creatures, hop on by, to graze on the grass. The Hawaiian Kangaroo is actually a Wallaby, descended from the Brush-tailed Rock-Wallaby that made a breeding population on hawaii during the human era. Thier colorations are similiar to thier ancestors, however they have grown in size, to about 2/3rds the size of a Red Kangaroo. To be continued... What do you think on the Hawaiian animals so far(got a little bored of the Grasslands for now, will go back to them soon.) |

What are the introduced predators? Also, did you make up the wallaby population? If there are wallabies in Hawaii there better be a lot more in England, since they're being bred and sold there as lawnmowers. |

Not made up at all, in 1920 some Brush-Tailed Rock-Wallabies escaped captivity in Hawaii, and have since then created a stable breeding population. And the predators, well I was thinking of a Mongoose one, since theres an introduced Mongoose in the islands. |

Hmm, alrighty instead of Pronghorns taking an Antelope niche, they will be taking other niches, for example Giraffe niches, and the like. The Antelope niche will be taken by an Antelope. The Blackbuck's of Texas. Also Hawaii will be sporting small cat predators, some Mongoose descendants, and Flightless Chicken. |
