| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! I'm gonna remake my project about a small island in which dinosaurs survived. But instead I'm gonna make it more weird and interesting than the tipical cliche lost island. It has come to my attention that maybe the permo-triassic extinction only occured in mainland, because China and Siberia, which were isolated during the time of the extinction, had "living fossils" all the way up to the Triassic. So, if my large island managed to stay isolated for the rest of the Earth History, then I can make it a paradise were Permian living fossils live alongside pterosaurs. So, this is the Late Permian of our timeline: ![]() And this is the map with my island, in an alternate timeline: ![]() The island separated from the rest of the world during the middle permian, so the creatures from said island weren't affected by the P-T extinction event. Furthermore, the separation produces a strange magmatic fluctuation in the surrounding area of the island (In fact, you can see said fluctuation on the map, in the water current near the island), which prevents it from re-joining other landmassess until the fluctuation looses it's strength. Long story made short, there's a tidal wave underneath the tectonic plates, and causes the island to bounce in the pacific ocean instead of coliding with the landmassess. In further posts, I'm gonna describe the wildlife of the island across time, until we reach present. Also, I would really like Parasky/Pandorasaurus too make me a subforum for this project. Thanks ![]() Edited by TheCoon, Jun 14 2010, 10:36 AM.

First Update!![]() (Sorry for the bad quality of the images, but I'm still learning how to use my scanner) Here we can see two new families of hervivorous dinocephalians. The one in the top left are Pseudosauropods. Not because they have similar appearance, but they do have the same ecological niche that sauropods will occupy later in the Jurassic and Cretacic periods in the rest of the world. They use their horns to defend themselves in a Pachycephalosaurus-like fighting style. However, some bigger species that inhabited the root-rich canyons* are unable to use them because of said size, thus obligating them to rely on big numbers to survive. They are hot blodded and all of them inhabit the savannah and the root canyons at the southern mountains. The family at the bottom right are the Hervivosaurs (Name subject to change). They are smaller than their Pseudosauropod relatives, some of them being of the size of a cow or a goat. Like all dinocephalians, they rely on headbutts to attack, but the horns of this creatures became more elaborate, and some of them even include primitive forms of coloration to attract members of the oposite sex during mating season. Because of their smaller size, their habitat extended more than their Pseudosauropods relatives, because they not only inhabit the savannah and the canyons along with them, but also inhabit the dense forests and the rocky part of the desert. *Across the Southern Mountain Chain in the Mu island, there's a network of canyons. The walls of the canyons are rich in plant roots, reason why said areas are rather populated by creatures that wish to exploit this food resource, and even evolved varied ways to obtain the roots. Size is one of them, as you can see in the Pseudosauropods, which are bigger to reach the roots in the taller areas of the root walls. |

In fact, basal gorgonopsids become primate like. First like lemurs, then diversified, and sapience was just evolving when the Cretaceous extinction happened. |

HEY! Sorry for not updating this. I really want to, but I'm very busy right now. School starts tomorrow for me and I've been preparing for it. Also, I've started to make drawings and concepts for clients, so in other words I also have a job. If someone else is interested in adopting this project, I would be very glad, because the odds are that I'll never finish it. |

I forgot to say, I was also working on another project that came to me in the moment I saw the news about Pakasuchus. It's a world in which the Triassic-Jurassic extinction was far worse, and Mammals became extinct just when they started to flourish. |
