| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. I'm gonna remake my project about a small island in which dinosaurs survived. But instead I'm gonna make it more weird and interesting than the tipical cliche lost island. It has come to my attention that maybe the permo-triassic extinction only occured in mainland, because China and Siberia, which were isolated during the time of the extinction, had "living fossils" all the way up to the Triassic. So, if my large island managed to stay isolated for the rest of the Earth History, then I can make it a paradise were Permian living fossils live alongside pterosaurs. So, this is the Late Permian of our timeline: ![]() And this is the map with my island, in an alternate timeline: ![]() The island separated from the rest of the world during the middle permian, so the creatures from said island weren't affected by the P-T extinction event. Furthermore, the separation produces a strange magmatic fluctuation in the surrounding area of the island (In fact, you can see said fluctuation on the map, in the water current near the island), which prevents it from re-joining other landmassess until the fluctuation looses it's strength. Long story made short, there's a tidal wave underneath the tectonic plates, and causes the island to bounce in the pacific ocean instead of coliding with the landmassess. In further posts, I'm gonna describe the wildlife of the island across time, until we reach present. Also, I would really like Parasky/Pandorasaurus too make me a subforum for this project. Thanks ![]() Edited by TheCoon, Jun 14 2010, 10:36 AM.

Website created. It's still a WIP, but I'm gonna upload new things. As you noticed, the list of creatures changed a little bit, and I'm checking the story of the island I posted to see if there's any inaccuracies. I'm gonna post them soon: http://muproject.webs.com Edited by TheCoon, Jun 15 2010, 08:08 PM.

Nice. Can't wait for the animals. Good idea not uploading the images into Webs. Now that I know that I can do that makes me want a webs website. |

I love your work TheCoon, you may want to cross post your project at this site www.alternatehistory.com it is a very good site that focuses on the subject of alternate history (which your project fall squarely within) are members are very knowledgeable (There are several college professors as members) you could get a lot of information and helpful feed back, especially as your island enters the human era. |

This is especially interesting for me because many of the animals on my fictional planet resemble early Therapsids. Will you have pictures of the more recent forms or are they already on your site? |

Don't worry. I'm probably gonna change that. There's still a lot of ideas that are not definitive.
I'm working on the creatures really hard. I will (Fortunately) have my scanner soon, so expect a great update soon.
What a coincidence! I was concidering to join so they would help me with the civilization. But maybe later. I'm still making creatures from the triassic and jurassic, so it might take a while to get to humans.
Sure! I would really like that. |

I would advise going ahead and joining, there are many people very knowledgeable about biology there as well. Plus, you never know what wonderful cross pollenezation of ideas may take place |

Ok. I'll do it. Thanks Irbaboon. Is there any suggestion for the creatures? I'm gonna do this by chapters. Each chapter will be located just when an extinction event occurs (Larger or Lesser). So, the chapters will be: Late Triassic (T-J Extinction Event) Early-Mid Jurassic (Toratian Turnover) Late Jurassic (J-C Extinction Event) Mid Cretaceous (Aptian Extinction) Late Cretaceous (K-T Extinction Event) Late Paleogene (Eocene-Oligocene Extinction Event) Neogene (Ice Age and Present Times) |

Before he can know the KT survivors he has to make Cretaceous organisms first. And as stated in Synapsidia, mammals can't exist. They evolved in the Triassic and thus can't exist if the island separated in the Permian. The only ways possible is rafting (doubt it though, or else there would be native New Zealand mammals) and swimming/flying, which would mean only aquatic mammals and bats would be able to arrive. |

Pseudo-mammals, derivated from therapsids. But I've been concidering to include bats in it too. You know. New Zealand has them too! Why not Mu? There's been a little delay with my scanner, but don't worry. I will probably upload the first stuff next week. |
