| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! In this world humans never evolve, yet humanity still exists. The first upright apes still lead the way for a new future, but rather than just paving the way for brainy monkeys, the pave the way for everything else. Let's just say something happened that allowed these upright simians to invade practically any niche they could. Rather than growing bigger brains and making better tools, shaping the world around them, the world would shape them. Long teeth, sharp claws, long necks, big feet ... the Earth belongs to them. The Present is filled with various forms of 'Un-man' , form small tarsier-like hoppers, to werewolf and vampire-like beasts of legends told, to horned 'demons', to gigantic polar 'fattys' ... the land, the skies, and even the oceans have a familiar human scent. And what does the future hold for them, will they grow in succession, and become more beastly. Will some gain voices and insight to shape their on world, will the die out and the hands of even more prepared beasts ... this is The Land of Man. *A new 'project' inspired by Man After Man, All Tomorrows, my own idea for a contest, and Viergatchs submission for the contest* |

Sounds interesting. I actively imagine strange humanoids, so this ought to be a cool project. |

Yes, it is ! They're all rather strange yet wonderous beings, enough to make Dougal Dixon jealous Imagine herds of equids, and bovids grazing right next to herbivorous 'un-mens', while leopards and predatory homonids fight over a kill, you look up to see the skies filled with tarsier-like homonoids, while the waterways have long-bodied, long armed fisher-men with horse faces, while across the other side we can see Sea Maids hulking around being noisy and obnoxious ! I'm going to try and get some stuff up soon, the beginning of the week is nearly impossible but by the end it should be much easier as I will be done with school ! Th divergence from our line occurs at the arboreal simian level or at bipedal humanoid level? |

Hmm, this does sound fun. |

Interesting.... what time periods will it be put across? The most major problem i see is competition with more specialised animals. |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

I hold a soft spot in my heart for posthumans of all colours and creeds, but how are these things going to compete with the things that already occupy those niches? Unless there is some sort of widespread extinction event or the Qu decide to have some fun I don't see how it could work, and even then I imagine non primate animals would take those niches first. |

Maybe if its on a continent where almost everything else went extinct it could work. They would have a hard time displacing other creatures from their niches. |

Surely they would be resourceful enough to fight their way into these niches? They would all seemingly have our advantages like neoteny and an enlarged cortex. |
