| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. Hmmm...i don't know. Probably a large city... NYC, Boston, Washington D.C. In the case of Europe, probably Manchester, London or Madrid. I have a knack for great cities. |

I really don't like cities that much. Hong Kong looks pretty nice, but it's going to be pillaged in 2047 and it's already being damaged, so I don't see much point moving there. |

If I had to immigrate to some other country, I would probably pick Brazil. I know a guy - okay, more like I have heard of a guy - who went there on a vacation to visit his wife's family and he said he really liked it there. True, most of Brazil is (fortunately) covered in rainforest so most of the population is along the atlantic coast. A lot of cultural and linguistic diversity there, one of the greatest natural environments in the world, and THE greatest football ("soccor" for all you American wierdos )team in the world! I would also love to work there, either in primate research, zoological research and conservation in any other animal that lives there, or conservation of the Amazon rainforest itself. Plus, they have cocoa there and chocolate is one of the few things I am actually addicted to.Other places I would like to immigrate to would be Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, maybe Chile, Cuba, Panama, Costa Rica, even southern Mexico. Apparently you do need to watch yourself in some of these and other Central/South American countries because of the high level of crime and drug trafficing, but if you can let some of these things pass and find a way to live comfortably there, it can seem like paradise. Outside of the Americas it is probably a similar story for me. I would love to live in one of the heavily forested western/central African countries like Camaroon, Togo, Gabon, Equatoreal Guinea, and even the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). My primary concerns in these countries would be the political instability and the severe gender inequality issues there. Some of these countries, like the DRC, also have trouble conrolling terrorist activity within their borders, which can make living there rather dangerous. Another country in Africa that I would like to immigrate to would be Morocco. I have heard so many great things about that country, especially its capital city Merrakesh, from a few people I know that I am very tempted to take a vacation there whenever I get the chance. Another African country I would very much like to see would be Namibia. The populated coastal area is very much like that of Brazil, which I don't mind at all, but it is the unique environments of its interior that I most want to see. The Namib desert, the Skeleton Coast, the Kalahari, all sound like great places to explore. I would also like to see Madagascar, but I don't know very much about it other than that it has lemurs and other prosimian relics living in it. I had always wanted to see India, especially the southern and far eastern parts, but I wouldn't want to live in the northern part because the forests and other natural environments there are largely depleted and all you really have are either arid farmland or urban areas. Other countries I might like to immigrate to would be China and South Korea, Maybe Thailand or Vietnam, but that is pretty much it. The only country in mainland Asia that really peaks my interest is Mongolia. I am also interested in southeastern Russia and Siberia but the weather there might be a bit too extreme for me. Cambodia and Burma (now Myanmar) would be cool but they are too politically unstable and their law enforcement isn't that good...yet. Malaysia also sounds really cool. Insular Asian countries I would like to see are Sri Lanka and Indonesia. I would also love to see Papua New Guinea (PNG) and Tazmania. Any one of the western Polynesian islands would be really cool to live on as well. I have been to the Cook Islands before and I loved it there so I could easily see myself wanting to live there someday. |

Why "maybe" Chile? They are probably the most civilized place in South America. And I've not seen a Gundam series where Hong Kong is attacked in 2047, the Psyco Gundam attacks in 0087. I was referring to 50 years after the transfer of sovereignty when China can do whatever it likes with Hong Kong. |

I'd also like to move to Belize. I just now recalled a conversation on the internet I participated in where a guy was talking about how he moved to Belize and lived there for SEVEN MONTHS on only $20. Sure it's because he, like pretty much everyone on the island he was on, lived in a shack on the beach and pretty much fished for his own food, but it's not like he was without commodities. He had a laptop that used 3G to connect to the internet and stream TV, as well as a solar generator he used to charge it. That wouldn't be a bad way to live, IMO. EDIT: Thailand is really nice to, though I would avoid Bangkok. Edited by Ànraich, Jun 20 2010, 07:51 PM.

We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar. "The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming Tree That Owns Itself

Chile was also struck by an earthquake not so long ago. I think you mean "developed" rather than "civilized." The cities in the other countries do resemble your average industrialized city. They just happen to have a lot of poverty, that's all. The smaller towns are more traditional but I don't mind that. In fact, I would probably enjoy the change of scenery and pace of life there. |

So, earthquakes strike everywhere and it was fairly minor. We'd have forgotten about it had the Haitian not been for for people to associate the memory of it with. And I don't see why we need to change the word when civilized works fine. |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |
